GHT n | 3 i = obituaries SARA SCHMIDLE DERBY Sara S. Derby, 50, RD 3, De- munds Road, Dallas, died Dec. 1 at Nesbitt Memorial Hospital. She had been admitted Nov. 24 after several months illness. Mrs. Schmidle was born in Wilkes-Barre and lived in the Back Mountain area 40 years: he was a member of the East “ Dallas United Methodist Church. She was a dressmaker and was employed by Denise Fashions and others. She was a member of ILGWU. Her first husband, Thomas F. Schmidle, died Dec. 23, 1965. She is survived by her husband, Donald; daughters, Frances Morgan, Trucksville, and Debo- rah Derby, Connecticut; sons, Thomas Jr., Trucksville; Wil- liam E., Dallas, and Mark, Connecticut; sister, Mrs. Lee Fuller, Luzerne; brothers, Evan and Jack Brown, Bethlehem ; 12 grandchildren. The funeral was held from SnowdonFuneral Home, Shaver- town Dec. 3. The Rev. Charles ¥. Gomer Jr. officiated. In- terment was in Denison Ceme- tery, Swoyersville. OSCAR A. FISH Oscar A. Fish, Noxen, died Dec. 6 in Leader Nursing Home, Kingston. Mr. Fish, 78, had been a guest in the home for two months. Mr. Fish was born in Clarks Summit and resided in Forty Fort for a time prior to moving to Noxen.23 years ago. He was educated in Clarks Summit High School, and had been em- ployed as an engineer for the Erie-Lackawanna Railroad 43 years. Mr. Fish was a member of Noxen United Methodist Church and Noxen Volunteer Fire Company. He is survived by his wife, the former Anna Whispell; children, Mrs. Clarence Ray and Mrs. Clayton Pardoe, Sun- bury ; Donald, Northumberland ; Bernice Fish, Trenton; Mrs. Russell Transue Jr., Dallas; sister Mrs. Lois Hendershot, Harveys Lake; 10 grand- children and 18 great-grand- children. Whitesell died Dec. 5 at her home in Sweet Valley following an illness. Mrs. Whitesell was born in Idetown and was a resident of Sweet Valley for 45 years. She was the mother of Elwood and Howard Whitesell, owners of Whitesell Brothers Lumber Co., Idetown. Mrs. Whitesell attended Sweet Valley churches. She and her husband, George, would have celebrated their 49th wedding anniversary March 30. She is survived by her sons; her husband; eight grand- children and two great-grand- children; a sister Ethel Shaver, Dallas, and a brother, Charles Frantz, Ettonville. CLYDE WARHAM BIRTH A prominent citizen and civic leader of the Back Mountain area died suddenly Monday, Dec. 8, while at work. Clyde Warham Birth, 109 S. Pioneer Ave., Trucksville, suffered a fatal heart attack in Jackson Township where he had ré- sponded to a call for service. He was ready to return to his service station in Dallas when he was stricken at 2:45 p.m. Mr. Birth was born at Broad- way 67 years ago and was edu- cated in Broadway schools. He= resided in Trucksville for the last 37 years and owned and operated Birth’s Dallas Esso Service Station on Rt. 309, Dal- las, for many years. He was a member of Trucks- ville United Methodist Church and its official board ; past mas- ter of Wilkes-Barre Lodge 61, F&AM ; member of Bloomsburg Consistory, Irem Temple and Lehigh Valley Club, Allentown. He was president of Dallas Ki- wanis Club, through which he was an active supporter of the Key Club and Keyettes Service Club.
