PAGE EIGHT Child Welfare staffer 1/2 gal. awarded State grant Elizabeth Ann DeCesaris, Shavertown, has been awarded a grant by Pennsylvania's Pro- fessional Education Program for further study at the new school of social work, Mary- wood College. Miss DeCesaris, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Joseph DeCes- aris, is a staff member of the Child Welfare Services, Luzerne County Institution District and will pursue studies at Mary- wood for her master’s degree in social work. She is the first employee from the services to study at the new school. The Education Plan will en- able Miss DeCesaris to receive a salary during her training. A graduate of Nanticoke High School, Miss DeCesaris re- ceived her certificate as a reg- istered nurse after training at Mercy Hospital, Wilkes-Barre. She earned her bachelor of science degree in nursing from Catholic University, Washing- ton, D.C. in 1955. 3 She became a caseworker at the Child Welfare Services of the Luzerne County Institu- tion District in 1959 and has ELIZABETH A. DeCESARIS been transferred to the state program while pursuing her studies in social work at Mary- wood’s new school. Miss DeCesaris also has.the unique distinction of partici- pating in the Marywood school of social work’s innovative ap- proach to social work education. Students and field instruction personnel will work with re- gional social agencies, and business and industry in a modular system of education. Scout leaders plan events Neighborhood Girl © Scout Leaders’ Workshops for Dallas, Penns Woods Girl Scout Coun- cil, were held Sept. 5 at the home of Mrs. Rutherford Cooper, neighborhood director. Brownie leaders announced reservation of the picnic area at Irem Country Club for Oct. 4, noon to 3 p.m. for a neighbor- ‘hood event. Girls should bring nosebag lunches. Activities will carry out the theme, God Bless America. New leaders are Mrs. Ivan Ziegler and Mrs. James McClain. Junior leaders were informed that calendar orders should be phoned to neighborhood calen- dar chairman, Mrs. Robert S. Maturi, by Oct. 1. Troop chair- men may pick up their orders Oct. 15 at the community as- sociation meeting. Rey- nolds, 535 Coralie Drive, Wal- nut Creek, Calif., is serving aboard the attack aircraft car- rier USS Forrestal. The Forrestal is now parti- cipating in refresher training in the Caribbean Sea. The training is being con- ducted following a three-month overhaul at the Norfolk Naval Shipyard in Portsmouth, Va. Technician ~ coordinator. Lawrence Moretti and son Larry Jr. of Outlet, returned home recently from a 10-day fishing trip to Parc La Vere- neye, LePomajne Lodge, Que- bec, Canada. They experienced great suc- cess in securing their quota of pike, lake trout and walleye. They will host friends at a fish fry after which Larry Jr. will depart for DeVitte Military Academy, - Morganville, N.J. He will begin his sixth year there. Ellen Kline, Warden Place, has moved to the Smith Trailer Park, in a new trailer which was given to her by her daugh- ter and son-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Robert Sinclair, Cleveland, Ohio. Recent visitors were her son and family, Valley Station, Ky. ; her brother and family from Raleigh, N.C.; and her brother and family from Lewistown, Pa. Mrs. Kline and Mr. and Mrs. Sinclair spent three days in New York in observance of Mrs. Kline's birthday. Virginia Carpenter, Outlet, gave a patio and swim party recently, for her staff and members of her family. A buf fet lunch was served. Mrs. Carpenter operates the Car- penter Convelescent Home ir. Idetown. Mr. and Mrs. Carl Carey Sr., Baird Street, recently returned after spending a two-week va- cation in their camper trailer. Some of the places they visited _were Stoney Mountain Camp Ground, Tunkhannock; Grand Canyon, Pa.; Elmira, N.Y.; and Watkins Glen, N.Y. Mrs. Carey celebrated her birthday Sept. 12 and the Careys will celebrate their 26th wedding anniversary Sept. 25. Hazel Gillette, Center Street, is home after being a patient in the Wyoming Valley Hospital.
