| i | PAGE SIX SGT, F. D, McDONALD off to Vietnam First Sergeant F. D. McDon- ald left Friday for his second tour of duty in Vietnam. Sgt. McDonald enlisted in the Ma- rine Corps in March, 1946. Upon completion of his recruit training, he was transferred to San Diego, Calif., for a course of instruction at the Sea School where Marines are trained for specific duties aboard ship. Leaving Sea School, he jour- neyed to Hawaii, where he boarded the aircraft carrier USS Tarawa. His tour of duty aboard the carrier lasted two years as part of the Marine Detachment. He then was trans- ferred to Great Lakes; Ill., for discharge. Immediately prior to the out- break of hostilities in Korea, Sgt. McDonald reenlisted in the Marine Corps after two years of civilian life. He was given duty at Camp LeJeune, N.C., and later served in Korea from 1950 to 1951. His duty started at the Inchon invasion and continued until the Punch Bowl Operation. Upon returning to the United States, Sgt. McDonald was as- signed to Camp LeJeune for six months and then sent to the Department of State for duty at the American Embassy in Paris, France for 26 months. Returning to the United States, he later saw duty at Labrador and in the Mediter- ranean area. He was assigned to Marine Corps Recruiter School, Parris Island, S.C. in 1956 and reported for recruiting duty in Wilkes-Barre the same year. Since that time Sgt. McDon- ald has been to Quantico, Va., Vietnam,“Camp LeJeune and Lakehurst Navy Air Station, N.J. He is married to the former Nancy Williams, daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Fred L. Williams Sr. of Trucksville. They have three children, Jeffrey 11, Linda 7, and Patrick 3 months and reside at White Birch Trailer Ranch.
