The program consisted of as- semblies Sunday evening and each morning at which pro- fessors from the University addressed the body and various students demonstrated experi- ments they had personally de- veloped. On Monday afternoon, No- vember 4, the student body di- vided into small groups and visited with research scientists in their laboratories. Monday night was designated as/icareer night, and various professors, industrial scientists, and representatives of the U. S. Army spoke on careers in their particular fields. While attending the sym- posium the students were guests of the Nittany Lion Inn on the University campus. Sheldon Ehret’s garage, on BOOK REVIEW Allen Drury will of necessity have to write another political novel at’ once, in order to re- lieve the minds of the people who have already read his latest masterpiece of Washing- ton intrigue, ‘Preserve and Protect.” “Preserve and Protect” is a cliff-hanger. A reader may pro- ject himself into the story, he may think that one solution is the only possible one, but he is left with the nagging suspicion that he might be wrong. The book, dealing with the same characters that appeared in ‘““Advise and Consent,” and “Capable of Honor,” all written against the background of Washington politics, and build- ing in tension with each vol- ume, shows a merciless anal- ysis of news media and of col- umnists. The book was in the making before the assassinations of Senator Robert Kennedy and Dr. Martin Luther King. It portrays a truly frightening dis- regard of law and the preval- ence of crime. The last sentence catapults the reader into the future, where a darling of the people and a strong and courageous man who has labored long to gain the presidential nomina- tion, join hands before the fatal shot which blasts one husband and one wife into eternity.
