Of Eastern Star Order Outlined
by Oce Austin |
When Myra asked me to do an
Our Substance and the People to
People Program; Christian - Chil-
article on the Eastern Star, I asked dren’s Relief; Rehabilitation at
her what approach to the subject
she wished. She replied, ‘What is
it? Why is it? What does it do?
What does it plan to do? Who be-
longs 2”
The Order of the Eastern Star
is an international organization
thaffas established in 1878 for the
wives, mothers, sisters, daughters,
and widows of Master Masons.
Its purpose is to develop the
Christian character of members via
the lessons exemplified by the great
women of the Bible so that others
may see the wonderful loyalty and
friendship the members express for
each other and all brotherhood, -
for SERVICE is the mission of those
who have seen His Star in the East.
Dallas Chapter No. 396 Order of
the Eastern Star, one of the twelve
chapters in District 21-A, Wilkes-
Barre, has its regular meeting the
first Wednesday of every month |
(with the exception of July and
August) with the Worthy Matron,
Mrs. Elsie Jolley, and the Worthy
Patron, Mr. Dennis Bonning, pre-
siding this year.
District 21-A hosts its annual |
meeting and banquet every fall at
the Irem Temple. This year the
banquet honoring the Worthy
Grand Matron of the State of Penn- |
sylvania, Mrs. Emilie Keener of Har- |
risbury, will be at the Hotel Ster- |
ling Thursday, November 4, at 5
p. m. with the District Meeting to
follow at 7:30 p. m. at the Irem
Tess ple.
‘e Grand Chaper of Pennsyl-
vania with its membership of more
than 125,000 sponsors many worthy

Pittsburgh; the Educational Scholar-
ship Fund; Overseas ‘Needy or Share
Veterans’ Hospitals; the Shriners’
Hospital for Crippled Children; Ma-
sonic Homes; Cancer Research; Ar-
thritis and Rheumatism Foundation,
- for which projects members share
their time, talents, and financial
contributions plus serving on the
community, chapter, district, and
Grand Chapter committees for these
projects.
The Order of Ralnbow for Girls
is sponsored by the Order of the
Eastern Star. The Dallas Charles E.
James Memorial Assembly was
granted its charter in March, 1960
when more than one hundred girls
of the twelve through eighteen age
group were initiated into the Order
of the Rainbow to give Christian
service.
Constituted April 1, 1925 the Dal-
las Chapter No. 396 Order of the
Eastern Star with more than three
hundred membership is a chapter
| fortunate enough to have its own
building, thanks to the generosity
of a Past Matron, Mrs. Myrtle Rine-
man, who donated two lots on
Foster Street, the individual con-
{ tributions of members and friends,
and the cooperative support of the
press, radio, and public that attends
the annual July Auction at the Leh-
man Horse Show Grounds, the an-
nual turkey supper at the Jackson
Fire Hall, the baked goods and :re-
freshment sales at -the Kingston
Farmers’ Market, and the rummadge
sales at Lare’s Building; - Luzerne.
These activities; season Christianity
with social action as’ needed service |:
is given to make this a better world
in which to live.
Myra, your - generous offer ‘to
write this = column afforded me
further opportunity to ‘serve - the
members of Dallas Chapter and. the
Order of the Eastern Star and we
all gratefully appreciate it.
