Dallas Chapter No. 396 Order of the Eastern Star, one of the twelve chapters in District 21-A, Wilkes- Barre, has its regular meeting the first Wednesday of every month | (with the exception of July and August) with the Worthy Matron, Mrs. Elsie Jolley, and the Worthy Patron, Mr. Dennis Bonning, pre- siding this year. District 21-A hosts its annual | meeting and banquet every fall at the Irem Temple. This year the banquet honoring the Worthy Grand Matron of the State of Penn- | sylvania, Mrs. Emilie Keener of Har- | risbury, will be at the Hotel Ster- | ling Thursday, November 4, at 5 p. m. with the District Meeting to follow at 7:30 p. m. at the Irem Tess ple. ‘e Grand Chaper of Pennsyl- vania with its membership of more than 125,000 sponsors many worthy proiegts. Some of which are: the re. of three Eastern Homes (for elderly members) at ‘Williamsport, Germantown, and Pittsburgh; the Educational Scholar- ship Fund; Overseas ‘Needy or Share Veterans’ Hospitals; the Shriners’ Hospital for Crippled Children; Ma- sonic Homes; Cancer Research; Ar- thritis and Rheumatism Foundation, - for which projects members share their time, talents, and financial contributions plus serving on the community, chapter, district, and Grand Chapter committees for these projects. The Order of Ralnbow for Girls is sponsored by the Order of the Eastern Star. The Dallas Charles E. James Memorial Assembly was granted its charter in March, 1960 when more than one hundred girls of the twelve through eighteen age group were initiated into the Order of the Rainbow to give Christian service. October 21 to November 10 has been designated for the mailing of Christmas parcels by surface trans- portation to members of our Armed Forces Overseas, Air-Mail parcels December 1 to December 10. Greeting cards for the Armed Forces overseas should be mailed within the periods designated for parcels if they are to have a reason- able expectation of delivery prior to Christmas. All packages should be packed in boxes of wood, metal, solid fiber- board or strong double faced cor- rugated fiberboard. Each box should be well tied with strong cord, with sufficient cushioning for protection. A slip showing the list of contents and addressee hould be enclosed in the parcel.
