Women of Rotary installed their
1965-66 officers at a meeting at Irem
Temple Country Club Friday night,
June 4.
Twilight League To Play Saturday
Back Mountain new entry in the
wilight League will play home
games at Dallas Jr. High School
field Saturday nights at 6 p.m.
The Twilight League is composed
nine teams ir the greater Wilkes-
Barre Area. Boys 16-19 are eligible.
The roster from Back Mt. is-com-
prised of boys from Lehman High
School, Dallas High and Wilke
College. The loop which is known
as “The Stepping Stone To The
Pros” attracts the better players in
the area. :
Back Mt. will have as their pitch-
ers Don Martin and Ed Kern. Hard
hitting Bill Simpson and Dale Prynn
will help pave the clubs attack.
Williams Completes
Cannoneer Training
Pvt. Harold D. Williams, son of
Mr. and Mrs. Albert H. Williams,
Shavertown, completed advanced
_ training as a cannoneer under the
Q) Reserve Enlistment Program at the
" Army Artillery and Missile Center,
Fort. Sill, Okla., June 17.
/ Williams was trained in. the
preparation, loading -and firing * of
field artillery guns and howitzers.
He received basic training at Fort
Knox, Ky.
He was graduated from Dallas
High School in 1964 and wads em-
pioyed by Natona Mills, Dallas, be-
fore going on active duty.
Sergeant Bernard Mazer
In Nordic Air Maneuver
Army Sergeant First Class Bern-
ard Mazer, son of Mr. and Mrs.
Joseph Mazer, Lehman, who took
part in operation British-Denmark
maneuver which ended June 21.
The two-week exercise featured
the third largest airdrop of Ameri-
can troops in Europe since World
War II.
It began June 12 in Borris, Den-
ark, where Sergeant Mazer, nor- |
". mally assigned to Service Battery, |
45th Battalion, of the 8th Infantry
Division's 81st Artillery near Wies-
baden, Germany, joined with mem-
bers of allied forces to work on co-
operative strategy as a part of the
NATO plan to provide protection for
tke northern European defenses.
Mazer entered the Army in 1951 |
and arrived overseas in September |
1963 on this tour of duty.

High Team, will also add . color.
We shall look at other members of
the Back Mt. Twilight League Team
in the weeks to come.
Manager Hank Tuck states that
there is one more opening on the
club. Paid uniformed umpires will
lend dignity to the game. This Sat-
urday ‘Swoyerville will be the at-
traction. See you at the game.

Minor League baseball:
Dallas Rotary vs Lehman-Jackson
In the first game, Sunday, Leh-
man- Jackson defeated Dallas Ro-
tary by. a score of 7-3. Winning
pitcher was R.. Corn ll, who gave
up only two hits, by Snyder and
Vitale. Ide hit a double for Lehman
and two singles, followed by Onzik
with two doubles and Turley with
two singles. :
Trucksville vs Shavertown
Shavertown = defeateed Trucks-
ville in the second game of the day,
10-6. Wimmer led the hitting for
Shavertown with a double and a
single, while Cummings and Sabol
did the same for Trucksville. Win-
ning pitcher was Miller.
Dallas Lazarus ys. Dallas Dairy
Dallas Lazarus defeated Dallas
Dairy in a high scoring contest 15-
| 11. Mahoney led the hitting for
| Lazarus with two singles and Noon |
| held the big bat for the dairy with
{a double and a single. Winning
| pitcher was Batkiewicz.
Westmoreland vs. Fernbrook

Here is a round-up of the June 13°
| Mrs. Ethel M. Kitchen of 324 Third
Fernbrook defeated Westmore-
land 10-0, with Martin hurling a |
two-hit shut-out and striking out
12 men. The two hits were a double
by Kuchemba and a single by Reiler. |
The big gun for Fernbrook was
Kester with three singles.

Alpha Gamma Sigma
Justin Danie] Congdon, son of Mr.
and Mrs. C. L. Congdon, Demunds
Road, Dallas, has been elected Pres-
ident of Gamma Lambda Chapter
of Alpha Gamma Sigma at Victor
Valley College, Victorville, Calif.
Alpha Gamma Sigma is a state hon-
or society requiring a grade point
average of over 3.00
2 & Justin has been an active member
“of the honor society for the past
two semesters and has held the
posts of Treasurer and Vice Presi-
dent. His major is Biology and his
grade point average at the close
of this semester is 3.29 on the 4.00
scale.
Sp/4 Paul Dugan
Goes To Korea
Specialist Four Paul E. Dugan,
son of Mr. and Mrs. Paul Dugan,
Shavertown, was assigned to the
4th U.S. Army Missile: Command
in Korea, June 9.
Specialist Dugan is a clerk in the
command's 4th Support Company.
He entered the Army in 1960 and
was last stationed at Fort Ben-
ning, Ga,
Dugan was graduated in 1960
from Lake-Lehman High School in
Lehman.
Before entering the Army, he was
‘employed by Gavy’s Market in
Shavertown,
Dallas Area Summer School be-
gan June 21 wand will continue
through July 30. 180 students are
enrolled in the session, which offers
all courses in English, history,
science, and mathematics. Typing
is available for students in the 9th
to 12 grades.

At the recent convention of Penn-
sylvania Society of Professional
Engineers at Hershey, Mrs. Donald
D. Smith, Country Club Road, West
Dallas, was appointed National Dele=
gate from Pennsylvania to the
ladies auxiliary of the National So-
ciety of Professional Engineers.
The Smiths and their daughter
Donna will fly to Albuquerque, New
Mexico, on June 29 for the con
vention. Mr. Smith is a National
Director from Pennsylvania.
Both Midge and Don are grad-
uates of Dallas Township High
School and Penn State. Donna is
a junior at Dallas Area Senior
High School.
Former Lake Woman
Sect’y To Carbon DA
A former Harveys Lake resident,
Street, Weatherly, at a recent meet-
ing of the Carbon County Commiss-
ioners, at Jim Thorpe, Pa., was per-
manently named Secretary to the
District Attorney of Carbon County,
Mrs. Kitchen, the former Ethel
M. Eicke, an alumnus of G.AR.
High School, is the wife of Glenn
A Kitchen, and presently the man-
Weatherly.

Sarah Elizabeth Belvin, 221 High-

a Bachelor of Arts degree from
