Jacobs Receives
Wrestling Letter

Gecirge Jacobs has been awarded
his first varsity A in wrestling by
Amherst College in Massachusetts.
Jacobs wrestled in the 167, 177,
and unlimited classes for the Am-
herst team that won the Little Three
Championship. As Jacobs is only a
sophomore, his coach, Dwight “Scul-
ly”’ Scandrett, has high hopes for
him in the next two years. As a!
freshman last year, Jacobs won his
numerals in wrestling and crew.
He is the son of Mr. and Mrs.
George Jacobs of 164 North Pioneer
Avenue, Shavertown, and is a 1961
graduate of Dallas Senior High
School and spent a year in the
Philippines as a foreign exchange
student. In high school he was Pres-
ident of the Key Club, and lettered
in football and wrestling.
Antique Show To Open

sently undergoing overhaul in the

Essex is the hub of an anti-sub-
marine Hunter-Killer group consist-
ing of surface, sub-surface and air

The Women’s 26th Annual State
Tournament started Saturday at
Stanton Lanes with many local
bowlers. rolling their singles and
doubles. The weekend was filled
mostly by applications from . the
Wyoming Valley Area and Scranton.
No one will compete during the
Easter weekend, but every weekend
following, up until the end of May,
will be filled with bowlers .from all
over the state.
Crown Major
Gosart’s Appliances leads the Ma-
jor league with Dallas Nursery and
Wesley Gulf second and third.
Top scorers the past two
weeks has been Charlie Wil-
liams with 224-222 (630) and
Joe Klass hitting 255 (629).
Others in the 600’s were Dick
Ide 201-231 (618), Arlie Van-
derhoff 214-214 (602), Jack
Trudnak 203-205 (606), Chuck
Glasser 231 (601), Jim Lohman
215-207-204 (626) and Harold
Kocher 205-230 (613).
Posting games over 220 were Al

Robert Moss Makes
Own Maple Syrup
Robert Moss, son of Mr. and Mrs.
Myron Moss, Shickshinny, R.D. 2,
and .a senior at Lake-Lehman High
School is busy making maple syrup
since the early part of March.
Robert started making maple syr-
up last year and is again tapping
the maples, extracting the delicious
syrup which he boils down night
and day in a copper kettle over a
brick fireplace he himself erected.
His dad tells us that it takes 40
{gallons of juice to obtain one gal-
lon of syrup.:On Sunday he and
hig parents took a ride to Sullivan
County where they visited two ma-
ple sugar plants in that area.
Enthusiastic over his projects, Ro-
bert plans to make a greater supply
nert year, since he finds ready buy-
ers.
