Bird Count On Dec. 21
The Back Mountain Bird Club
will “hold its Annual Christmas
Count, Saturday, December 21. This
is the only Winter Field Trip that
the local club holds during. the
winter season.
Edwin Johnson is in charge and
he requests that any and all per-
sons who would like to participate
call him, or any of the other chair-
| men. The Club is hoping to achieve
a goal of fifty species this year,
heretofore they have been able to
score only forty-one. Other chair-
men are William Reid, George
Deisher, and Mrs. C. L. Nesbitt.
Another event of interest to
birders and conservationists is an
Audubon Screén Tour to be held
in the Science Auditorium, of Muh-
lenburg College, Saturday, dJanu-
ary 4, 8:15 pm.
Earl L. Hilfiker will speak on
“Wildlife of the Eastern Wood-
lands. His movie with close-up
photography will show the animal
life in and about a beaver pond.
If this lecture is as good as the
first two in this series it will be
well worth the trip to Allentown.

Mrs. Amanda Boline
Mrs. Amanda Boline, 74, Trucks-
ville, died suddenly Tuesday morn-
ing at her home on Vonderheidt
Avenue.
Services are scheduled for Friday
at 1:30 from the Graham Funeral
Home, S. Franklin Street, where
friends may call this evening.
Burial will be at Mt. Greenwood.
Officiating minister will be Rev.
John O. Lindquist. >
Mrs. Boline, the former Amanda
Ebbeson, was born at Sugar Notch,
daughter of the late John and Jo-
hanna Goodmanson Ebbeson. She
belonged to the Salem Lutheran
Church in Sugar Notch. Since 1940,
she lived in Trucksville,
Surviving are: her husband J.
Adolph; two sons: Hubert, Buffalo,
and Donald, Illinois; six grand-
children; sisters: Hilda Ebbeson,
Trucksville, and Mrs. Bala Neary,
Kingston.
Perry Hoover Will Be
Buried At Maple Grove
Services for Perry Hoover, Jr.
Pikes Creek, are scheduled for
| Saturday morning at 11 from the
| Bronson Funeral Home, with burial
at Maple Grove. Officiating clergy-
men will be Rev. Fred Eister and
Rev. James Garrahan, pastors of
Alderson and Maple Grove Meth-
cdist charges. :
Friends may call tonight and to-
morrow evening.
When a Hoover dies, the entire
community is affected: It is one
of the largest family connections
in the Back Mountain.
Mr. Hoover, 65, had known for
four years that his days were num-
| bered. Tuesday afternoon he died
| at General Hospital where he had
been admitted two days earlier.
Born in Luzerne,.son of the late
Perry and Ida Dextér Hoover, he
spent most of his life at Pikes
Creek. He was a miner and a
construction worker. Prior to his
illness, he had worked for a time
at a cosmetics plant in New Jersey.
He belonged to Maple Grove
Methodist Church. « Many of the
Hoovers are buried in the church
cemetery, including Mr. Hoover's
parents. !
Surviving are: his widow, the
former Cora Lord; these children:
Mrs. Betty Whitesell, Loyalville;
Janis, at home; Sheldon, Carteret,
N. J; Wayne, Kunkle; brothers:
Fred, Shavertown; Arthur, Lehman;
Richard, Bloomsburg; sisters: Mrs.
Edna Meyers, Stillwater, and Mrs.
Louise Seitzchek, Kingston.

Firing Squad To Salute
Mark H. Brown At Grave
Military rites for Mark H. Brown,
Center Moreland Road, are sched-
uled for this afternoon at 2 from
the Nulton Funeral Home, with a
firing squad at Marsh Cemetery
furnished by Noxen VFW Post. Rev.
William Watson will officiate.
Mr. Brown, 54, dropped dead of
a heart attack Monday afternoon
while hunting deer near Meshoppen.
He had stooped over to help his
son tag his first deer, when strick-
en. Mark, Jr., 15, ran to the near-
est house for help. Death was in-
stantaneous.
This is the second area death of
a middle-aged man while hunting.
His meighbor, Irwin Denmon, Beau-
mont, died early in deer season
after dragging his kill to his car.
Born in Vernon, son of the late
Levi and Anna Wright Brown, he
was educated in local schools. He
was employed in construction work
by Hemp Brothers, Laceyville.
During World War II, he served
Africa and Europe.
He leaves his widow, the former
Hazel Dymond, Center Moreland;
two children, Mark and Frances
Ann, both at home; three brothers:
Harry, Beaumont; Stanley, Tunk-
hannock RD; Elmer, New Jersey;
three sisters: Mrs. Elmer Shaffer,
Eatonville; Mrs. Emily Smith, Ver-
non; Mrs. Thomas Piscotty,
Plymouth.
Have 16th Child
Mr. and Mrs. Frank Stoss, R.D. 1,
Dallas, became parents for the six-
teenth time when a daughter, Bren-
da Lee, weighing 9 lbs, 15 ounces,
was born Dec. 8 at General Hospital.
The other children, are Gloria, nine-

Bag First Trophies
Keith Gensel, 13, Chase Manor,
is a proud lad these days, having
bagged a 100 pound doe on Mon-
day at Ceasetown.
Hunting - with his father for the
first time this year, Keith was dis-
appointed when he missed a buck
earlier this month, but the catch
on Monday made up for any earlier
dismay.
Keith is the son of Mr. and Mrs.
Roland Gensel, Jackson Township
and is a student at Lehman 2chool.
