Carverton Native Has Fatal Heart Attack Mrs. Mabel D. Davenport, Car- verton native and former resident of Dallas died last Monday at the Hospital in. Pottstown. Funeral services were ~onducted in that city on Thursday. Mrs.” Davenport was daughter of the late Odell and Amy Harris DeWolfe. She graduated from Dal- las Borough high school and Wil- kes-Barre General Hospital school of nursing. She had suffered a heart attack four years ago. Death struck sud- denly when a second heart attack ocurred on Monday. She was hos- pitalized for only an hour. Mrs. Davenport, wife of Stanley Davenport, principal of Senior High School at Pottstown belonged to the Century Club, Order of Eastern Star, and First Methodist Church. ‘Surviving in addition to her husband are: a daughter Virginia Wilson, Warminster; a sister, Ruth Arlington, Virginia; two grandchil- ren, WAIT AND SEE CLASS by Mr. and Mrs. Raymond Sear- fogs recently. Mrs. Ruth Wright pre- sided; Mrs. Margaret Barrall pre- sented the minutes, Mrs. Mabel Major the treasurer's report. Huntsville Christian To Elect Officers Huntsville Christian Church schedules an’ important congrega- tional meeting for this evening, fol- lowing a congregational covered dish supper starting at 6:30. Nominating committee will report followed by election of officers. Nominating committee met recently at the home of Mrs. Walter Co- vert, with these members present: Rev. M. Richard Bevan, J. M. Culp, Mrs. David Joseph, Mildred Major Emerson Evans, Robert Culp, and Carl Roberts. Members are asked to phone Mrs. Ella Schmoll, Mrs. David Joseph, or Mrs. Wilbur Davis, to inquire what covered dishes to bring. CARD OF THANKS The family of the late Mrs. Jen- nie Steltz wishes to thank friends and neighbors who sent flowers and cards to the hospital before her death, and to the home at the time of bereavement. Gifts | will be’ exchanged and entertain- ! It was a deeply spiritual experi- ence to hear the’ “Recital in Dedication of the New Schlicker Organ” last Sunday night at Green Ridge Presbyterian Church in Scranton, which had invited Clif- ford E. Balshaw, F.A.G.O., organist at St. Stephen's to bring out the best in this new organ. A page in the program leaflet about the organ itself, was a new idea to me who had thought of an organ merely as an instrument, ‘An organ is an expression of goodness, truth and beauty in tone.” Further the bro- chure states, “In a sense the build- ing of an organ is a medieval kind of thing. It demands complete de- votion to an idea that must often transcend personal comfort and even necessities.” And the last line concludes “Here then is an instrument through which revela- tion may be manifest in its fullest glory.” This instrument of divine wonder The Glory Of An Organ By Rev. Charles H. Gilbert called for a man with a soul thoroughly imbued with the spirit4 of sacred mugic coupled with a skill which itself is the result of “complete devotion to an idea” to turn on the light of musical illumi- nation, The organ was something new in design to me, in that hundreds of the pipes are exposed to full view, such pipes as I had never seen excepting by crawling in through a narrow door behind the console. One looked at those gleaming pipes first on one side of the chancel and: then the other almost expecting to see something moving up there as the sounds came rippling or rumbl- ing from the loft. Clifford Balshaw was devotionally at home with such an organ, Those of us who know him felt something of the thrill of such a combination! of an organ of marvellous design and ‘a man of supreme dedication to his art. Yacht Club Sponsors Girl Scout Mariners Girl ' Scout Mariner Troop for this area is now definitely sponsor- ed by the Harveys Lake Yacht Club. Twenty-four of our ‘senior high schoo] girls are interested in the proposed program. To learn a little more about Mariner Scouting, these girls visited a Mariner Troop in Kingston last week. Mrs. Jack Barnes, leader, says that meetings will start shortly, probably right after Thanksgiving. This is a program that is planned for twice a month schedule rather | than every week. Mrs. Barnes will be agsisted by Barbara Evans and Mrs. George Bauman, Card Of Thanks For all the kindness you have shown, We thank you very much; For sympathy in sorrowing dayg, For friendship’s healing touch.
