Seven seniors will represent Lake-
Lehman at the Pennsylvania State
Scholarship Examination on Thurs-
day, November 7, 1963. Those taking
the test are: Mary Ann Jeffery, Su-
san Fielding, Sharon Strzelczyk, Pa-
tricia Kanasky, Beverly Moyer, Jay
Ruckel, and Ronald Hontz.
The Senior Dance, featuring the
“Starfires”’, will be held tonight
in the high school cafeteria. This is
the first dance to be held this year
and will be open only to Lake-Leh-
man students.
Miss Jessica Thomas, high school
English teacher, recently attended
the meeting of the Luzerne County
Council of the International Reading
Association which was held at the
Educational Guidance Center in
Wilkes-Barre. Dr. Josephine Wolfe,
Pennsylvania director of reading re-
search projects, was the featured
speaker and presented the newest
approach to the teaching of reading.
Mr.. Thomas, of Diges and Clust,
will be at the high school in the near
future to take ring orders. The of-
ficial Lake Lehman class ring and
school jewelry are on display in. the
main corridor.
The dance band, under the stu-
dent leadership of Jay Ruckel, as-
sisted by Dave Sutton, ‘began re-
organization last week. Both old
favorites and popular songs will be
played by the group. Mr. Miliauskas
is the director.
Jay Ruckel was elected president
of the prize-winning Lake-Lehman
band by that group. Other newly
elected officers are: Susan Fielding,
vice president; Richard Sarmonis,
secretary; and David Sutton, treas-
urer.
Miss: Esther Avila, exchange stu-
dent from Argentine, was introduced
to the student body at a combined
assembly held in the high school

H. R. “Mac” McCartney, president
of the Anthracite Dog Trainuag Club,
announces that the club will present
a demonstration of ‘the results of
obedience dog training” at the Dal-
las Rotary Fall Fair, October 5.
“Olinda” of Barthel C.D.X. (Com-
panion Dog Excellent), owned and
trained by Mrs. Bart Collett, Shaver-
town, will be one of the participating
dogs. This lovely Dalmation is shown
here with three of her puppies.
“Linda” was obedience trained in
1 classes sponsored by the Anthracite
Dog Training Club; she received com-
panion dog excellent title award by
American Kennel Club in 1961 and
| 1962. Her sire is International cham-
pion Roadcoach Roadster; her dam,
Blue Flame of Diamond Acres.
“Linda” retired this year to rear
a litter of puppies for the Collett’s
grandson, Harry Goeringer III. The

Plans Winter Program
The Cloverleaf 4-H Club recently
met at the Trucksville Fire Hall for
their Roundup.
The following members were pre-
sent; Marvin Scott 3rd, John Cum-
mings, Susan Mieczkowski, Evelyn
Scott, Jennifer Ireland, Mimi Cleas-
by, a visitor, leaders Mr. and Mrs.
Marvin Scott and Mr. Chadwick.

Dallas hosts Lehman at the first
home football game of the 1963-64
season on Saturday, September 28,
to start our season off. The Stu-
| dent Council will sponsor a bonfire
| tonight at tHe High School field.

The Key Club will get new jackets
| for those who have participated in
Key Club or in the Drill Team for

Last Thursday, Mr. Joseph Ellis,
, world-wide lecturer, representing
| the Antrim Bureau, made a great
| impression on students and faculty
|in the school auditorium.
Mr. Ellis came to America from
Java, and told of his homeland and
of all his experiences in the Far
East.
To model the type dress worn by
men and women in Java, Mr. Ellis
| used four seniors: Linda Rowett,
| Betty Hemenway, Joseph Noon and
John Brominski.
Students have beem given a long
| week-end by the School District in
order to attend the Bloomsburg
| Fair. Band and majorettes will
| leave tomorrow morning to partici-
[pate in fairground activities.
