Attorney Mitchell Jenkins will be
guest speaker at a high school as-
sembly to be held May 1. The as-
sembly is entitled Law Day, U.S.A.
Supervising Principals met at
the Lake-Lehman Area High School
to conduct their business meeting
last Thursday. Lunch was served the
advisors in the high school cafeteria
by Mrs. Ruth Stolarick and her
homemaking department.
My. Ed Johnson, of the guidance
department, announced that the Dal-
las Rotary Club is sponsoring two
one hundred dollar scholarships for

seniors of the two Back Mountain
High Schools. Letters of students
participating should include personal
data, scholastic and occupational ex-
perience, financial status, future ed-
ucation goals, and special honors
and achievements.
Senior students were made aware
of a $25 award to be presented by
the Lehman Township Fire Depart-
ment to the senior presenting the
best letter concerning “Support of
Your Volunteer Fire Company.”
Each senior must write such a letter
to be submitted and studied. The
outstanding letters will be given
the Fire Department so that they
might decide upon the final winner.
The winning letter will be sent to
citizens of the community.
On Tuesday, April 16, fifty-one
seniors from Lake-Lehman school
took the P.S.E.S. aptitude test. The
test was given at 9:20 in ‘the high
school cafeteria.
A program entitled “The Youngs’
Magician Show” was presented on
Wednesday, April 17. The show was
sponsored by the Student Council.
Petitions for students planning to
run for class officers for the 1963-
64 term were circulated last week.
In order to qualify for a class office
a student must have a “C” average,
and have the signature of six stu-
dents and three teachers. on his
petition. Elections will be held in
May. ;
Prom Reservations were made
every day last week in the Student
Activity room. The Prom, which will
be held on Friday, May 3, in the
gym will have as its basic theme |
“Moon River.”

R.D. 5, completed recruit training,
April 10, at the Marine Corps Re-
cruit Depot, Parris Island, S. C.
The indoctrination to Marine
Corps life includes instruction in
basic military law, discipline, phy-
sical conditioning, and other mili-
tary subjects.
Three weeks are spent on the
rifle range, where recruits fire the
M-14 rifle and receive instruction
on other infantry weapons.

Red Rock To March
On Loyalty Day
Fifty men in dress blues from
Red Rock will parade Saturday
afternoon in Nanticoke, forming on
Main Street in advance of the 2
p.m. starting hour of the Loyalty
Day Parade, according to announce-
ment made by Lt. Richard M. Co-
ken, information officer of Benton
Air Force Station.
Also announced is Armed Forces
Day, May 18, when the public is |
invited to an open house at Red
Rock. Beginning at 9 a.m. guided
tours of radar installations will be
conducted. The theme is ‘Power
for Peace.” Celebrated on a Nation-
wide basis, Armed Forces Day will
have programs for both active and
reserve forces.

enjoyed the annual Easter party
Tuesday evening at the Franklin

Evans; of Troop C headquarters,
Reading, recently. named county
detective in Luzerne County, has
relatives back here who are proud
of him.
His wife, the former Jane Reese
of Wilkes-Barre, is sister of Mrs.
Sheldon Evans, Shavertown.
Evans, who retires May 1, has
been with the State Police since
October 20, 1932.

Fifteen members of the Junior
Class were recently inducted into
the National Honor Society with
John Wardell, President, presiding.
Senior members of the society il-
lustrated the high standards of the
Honor Society by giving a speech
on each characteristic. Those par-
ticipating were: Susan Fleming,
Character; Marleen Futch, Scholar-
ship; John Molski, Service; and Paul
Haradem, Leadership.
The Junior students were invested
with ‘the National Honor -Society
Pledge led by secretary, Charlotte
Roberts. Students selected to the
Society must attain a high scholas-
tic average, having a fine character,
show leadership and be of service
to their school.
