CHURCH OF CHRIST
Sweet Valley
The United Nations in miniature
was held in our State Capital this
past weekend. The 7th Biennial
Pennsylvania State YMCA-sponsored
United Nations Model Assembly
took place in the Forum of the
State Educational Building March
2 and 3. Four hundred and twenty-
five delegates from local Tri-Hi-Y
Clubs and their advisors, from all
sections of the state, participated
in this colorful event in costume,
as they have done every other year
since 1947.
Delegates from this area included
Kay Williams and Sandra Yellitz
of the Lake-Noxen Tri-Hi-Y Club,
and Mary Ann Morningstar and
Carol Owens of the Lehman Tri-
Hi-Y Club. They represented the
Nation of Afghanistan. Miss Will-
iams also served as a chaplain for
the Assembly.
This year approximately 100 Nat-
ions were represented at the Model
Assembly. Nearly all of the dele-
gates were in costumes made by
the girls themselves. Proposals based
in local Tri-Hi-Y Clubs and in Dis-
trict United Nations Assemblies in
the Fall.
Chairman was Mrs. Jeanne Shel-
by Mosier, Professor of Psychology
and Education for the Uniontown
Center of Waynesburg College.
The International Banquet held
at the Penn Harris Hotel on Fri-
day evening, March 2, featured J.
Benjamin Schmoker Executive Sec-
retary of the Committee on Friend-
ly Relations among Foreign Stud-
ents, which makes its headquarters
in New York and is responsible
for the reception at ports of entry
of all foreign students. ;
Girls who served as delegates to
the Assembly traveled to Harrisburg
by chartered bus. In the near future
they will speak to school and com-
munity groups on their new under-
standing of the workings of the
United Nations. Their first appear-
ance will be at the Dallas Rotary
Club on Thursday, March 15. The
Rotary Club shared in this project by
contributing generously to the ex-
penses of the delegates.
