to her home in West Dallas on
Saturday, after submitting to maj-
or surgery at Nesbitt Hospital.
Mr. and Mrs. Alva Eggleston of
Vernon, with their family, have re-
turned to their home after spend-
ing ‘a few weeks with Mrs. Eggles-
ton’s father Wesley Himmler at
Hollywood by the Sea, Florida.
While in Florida, they entertained
at a holiday party for thirty-two
guests, many of them reside in
the Dallas area. :

by plane for Hawaii this week
to spend two weeks with Edward
Durkin of Shrine View, a student
at University of Hawaii.
James Oliver, Lake Street, has
returned to his studies at Univer-
sity: of Miami after spending the

Grace Ann Bachman resumed her
studies at Pennsylvania ‘State Uni-
versity on Friday. Her mother and

Celebrates In Alaska
TOM METZ
Tom Metz, son of Mr. and Mrs.
Thomas Metz, Carverton, will celeb-
rate his nineteenth birthday anniv-
ersary in Adak, Alaska. Happy Birth-
day, Tom!
Tom enlisted in the U.S. Navy in
August and took his basic training
at Great Lakes, then went to radio
school at Bainridge, Md. He has
been in Alaska for seven. months
and expects to return home in June.
He would enjoy hearing from his

Mrs. Alfred Bright Is
Hostess To Card Club
Mrs. Alfred Bright, Mt. Green-
wood, entertained members of her
card club at a luncheon Saturday
night. Tables were decorated with
winter scenes. Present were Mes-
dames Norman Sword, Robert
Wright, Samuel Jenkins, Howard
Ellsworth, Nathan Simmers, Paul
Edwards, Richard Downs, Clifford
Johns and John Snyder.
Louise Kyttle
Mr. and ‘Mrs. Clinton Kyttle,
have announced the birth of a
seven pound girl, Louise, at Mercy
Hospital, Valley City, North Dakota,
on December 20, This is their first
child. Mrs. Kyttle is the former Jo-
anne Weed, West Wyoming. Mr.
Kyttle is a former Sweet Valley
resident, He is employed by Sperry
Gyroscope Company at Finley. er
"Mrs. Lewis Kyttle, Sweet Valley,
spent three weeks with the Clinton
Kyttles when the baby came. She
said the temperature was thirty
three degrees below zero when she
left,
| Entertain At Lunch
Ida Grey and sister-in-law, Mrs.
Jennie Grey, entertained at lunch-
eon last Tuesday, Mrs. Letha
Spaulding, Mrs. Letha Mayer, Dallas
and Mrs. Mayer's sister Mrs. Ber-
die Shepherd, Philadelphia. In the
afternoon the group drove over to
Sweet Valley to) visit Bess Klinetob.
These ladies grew up together in
the Loyalville area, but had not
been together for a visit in many
years, Needless to say, the after-
noon was spent recalling many
pleasant memories.
Jeanne Reed, Camp Hill, Pa. was
a recent guest of Nancy Covert,
Shavertown.
Mr. and Mrs. Robert Rogers, Har-
veys Lake, have announced the
birth of a daughter at General Hos-
pital on January 14.
Art Newman, East Dallas, sub-
mitted to minor surgery at Nesbitt
Gail Shaw, Hostess
At Birthday Party
Gail ‘Shaw, daughter of Mr. and
Mrs. Wilbur Shaw, Main Road,
Sweet Valley, observed her sixth
birthday on Friday, January 12, in
a way that she and her classmates
will long remember. Gail, a mem-
ber of the first grade of Ross Ele-
mentary School, left for class as
usual - with no thought of a
party. At home, Mrs, Shaw spent
the morning baking and decorating
a large birthday cake, which she
carried into the class room that
afternoon, surprising not only the
honoree, but her twenty-five class-
mates as well. Their teacher, Mrs.
Chykowski, assisted Mrs. Shaw in
serving ice-cream and candy along
with the cake. The children sang
“Happy Birthday” and all had a
most delightful time,

Mr. and Mrs. Daniel Rogers,
Huntsville, entertained at a family
dinner, honoring Mr. Rogers, their
granddaughter, Wendy Lee Hall,
and their grandson William Michael
Lamoreaux. Mr, Rogers observed
his birthday on January 9, Wendy
Lee on January 6, and Billy on
January 10. The two grandchildren
were a year old. Centerpiece was a
large birthday cake, flanked by
two smaller ones, a pink and white
bearing Wendy's name and a blue
and white for Billy. Those present
besides the honorees were Mr. and
Mrs, Louis Hall, Shirley, Christo-
pher, and Louis, Kingston; Mr. and
Mrs. William Lamoreaux, Sweet
Valley.
Wayne Bryan Ide
Mr, and Mrs. David O. Ide, Dallas
RD 4, announce the birth of a son.
their first child, January 16 at Nes-
bitt Hospital. Wayne Bryan Ide
weighed in at eight pounds and
four ounces, the first child in the
immediate connection to bear the
Ide name in the “male line. Mrs.
Ide is the former Grace Thomas
daughter of Mr. and Mrs. David H
Thomas, Kingston, David's parents
are Mr. and Mrs. Gilbert Ide,
John Alan Steele
Mr. and Mrs. John Steele an-
nounce the birth of a son, John Alan
2nd, in Berwick Hospital on Decem-
ber 30. Johnny has a little sister,
Linda, aged fifteen months. His
grandparents are Mr. ad Mrs. Ray
Harvey, Harveys Lake, and Mr. and
Mrs. Basil Steele of Mooretown.,

Mrs. Claude Cowart Jr. are proud
parents of a son, born January 16
in Bloomsburg Hospital. Mrs. Co-
wart is the former Betty Ann Roese.
“Chippy” will not see his daddy
until next November as he is sta-
tioned in Alaska.

Wed Thirty-Five Years
Mr. and Mrs.
Memorial Highway, Trucksville,
were married thirty five years ago
yesterday, January 24.
The couple was married in
Towanda by the Rev. J. D. Herrick.
There is one daughter, Mrs. Willard
Reese, Tunkhannock.
They are spending the winter
months in Florida. When they re-
turn, they will have to find a new
home as their present home will be
taken by the new Lake Highway.

Church at 6 p.m. Mrs. Joseph Mil-

The bride, given in marriage by
her father, wore white brocaded
street ‘length dress trimmed with
fur and carried a white satin Bible
that had belonged to her great

Robbins, mother of the bridegroom

Following the ceremony, a recep-
tion for members of the immediate

held at the home of the bride. The
couple will reside at their home in
Almedia after this weekend.
Mr. Robbins is a member of the
Junior Class at Bloomsburg State
College where he is specializing in
speech therapy and special educa-
tion.
Loyalville Girl To Wed
John Dunphy Of Medford
Mr. and Mrs. John S. Fine, Loyal-
ville, have announced the engage-
ment of Mrs. Fine’s daughter,
Suzanne A. Scheuer, to John J.
Dunphy, son of Mrs. William J.
Dunphy of Medford, Massachusetts,
and the late Mr. Dunphy.
Miss Scheuer is an alumna of
Wyoming Seminary and the Kath-
arine Gibbs School, New York.
Mr. Dunphy, who is a graduate of
the Massachusetts Maritime Acad-
emy, is now with the United Fruit
Company.

Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Konigus,
Sweet Valley, will celebrate their
thirtieth wedding anniversary on
Sunday, The couple
was married January 28, 1932 in
St. Ann’s Church, Luzerne, by the
Rev. C. Kunduskus. Mrs. Konigus
is the former Anna Winnicki of
Hunlock Creek. There are two
children, both at home. Eleanor is
a graduate of Lake-Lehman High
School, Joseph John Jr., an eighth
grade Lake-Lehman student.
Mr. Konigus is a retired miner.
Mrs. Konigus is employed at Re-
treat State Hospital. They reside
at Hunlock Creek R.D. 2.

Mrs. Bowman was a native of Loy-
