To Speak On Prophecy
Bt Free Methodist
Rev. Richard Purnell, former
President of the Primitive Metho-
dist Church, will deliver three mes-
sages on prophecy at the Trucks-
~ ville | Free Methodist Church this
weekend. Ruth Muir, Wilmington,
Delaware, a recent visitor to the
Holy Land, will show pictures Sat-
~ urday evening, demonstrating how
~ modern events in Jerusalem are
fulfilling prophecy.
Rev, Purnell will speak Friday eve-
ning on “The Return of The Lord
Jesus Christ” or “The Next Event
in the Prophetic Program.”

in Plymouth, has been a serious
studént of prophecy for many years.

YMCA Board Installs
Four On Directorate.
Rev. Robert D. Yost, chairman of
the Board of Management of the
Back Mountain Branch Town and
Country YMCA, introduced four new
members of the Board at the meet-
ng of the group Monday, September
25,
Presented to the Board were Dr.
John Blase, John Corke, Attorney
Merton Jones, and O. Van. Zim-
merman; Mr. Corke and Mr.
Zimmerman are associated with the
Bell Telephone Company.
The four new members replaced
James Edwards and John Zerbe who
resigned last spring and William
Austin and Clyde Birth who were
moved to the Advisory Board.
Other action at the meeting in-
cluded the acceptance of the resig-
nation of Robert Wade of Shav-
ertown who is no longer employed
in the area and will be moving in
the near future.
Huntsville Methodist
Selects New Minister
C. Earle Cowden, ministerial stu-
dent at Lycoming College, Will-
iamsport, has been selected by the
congregation of Huntsville Metho~
dist Church as its pastor. During
the summer vacation, he was in the
area full-time. With resumption of
classes, he is here for weekends.

Bishop Corson To Speak Monday
In Scranton To Church Leaders

Council, He has called this meet-
ing in’ order to share his inspira-
tion and concern for strengthening |
of the local church in evangelism,
education, missions, finance,
lay activities. '
At the first session, scheduled for

churches, and opportunities. to par-
ticipate in special gifts called Ad-
vance Specials. At the dinner which
| follows at 5:30 p.m., a layman will
speak on “What It Means to Be-

session, Bishop Corson will address
the gathering and conclude with
the Wesley Covenant Service.
' Local church leaders will include
lay leaders, lay members of the
Annual Conference, chairmen of
commissions, presidents of the
WSCS, Methodist Men, and MYF,
pastors and their wives.

Lehman WSCS plans a bake-sale
Oct. 13 at (Gosart’s, beginning at
9 a.m. Members are asked to bake

Father McGowan has served as
assistant at St. Theresa's, and St.
Mary’s in Wilkes-Barre. He is Dioc-
esan Director of Catholic men. for
the Scranton Dioceses, and director
of Camp S. Andrew.
President Borzone has appointed
Ignatius Gallagher, Chairman and
Andrew Lavrix and Vincent Makar,
Co-chairman of the Lucky Number
award to be made Nov. 13.
President Borzone extends an in-
vitation to the men of the parish
to attend. Rev. Francis Kane is
moderator of the society.

Dallas Methodist WSCS
Ten goals for the coming year
were outlined at the WISCS meet-
ing held Monday afternoon at Dallas
Methodist Church. Mrs. William
Baker, Sr. called attention to the
supper which will be served by the
Couples Club, November 18, as a
feature of the annual bazaar.
Week of Prayer, she announced,
will be observed October 25 at 2 p.m.
Fall meeting of Wilkes-Barre Dist-
rict WSCS is scheduled for October
10 at West Pittston, 8 p.m. Wyom-
ing Conference at Oneonta, N.Y.,
is held on Thursday.

Requiem Mass For
John T. Bogdan, Sr.
Burial services were conducted last
Saturday for John T. Bogdan Sr. of
Fernbrook from the Williams funeral
home, followed by a Mass of Reg-
uiem at Gate of Heaven Church,
celebrated by Rev. Francis A. Kane.
Interment was at St. Mary’s ceme-
tery. Holy Name Society recited
the Rosary Friday night.
Mr. Bogdan, 53, whose death not-
ice was received last week at press
time, “died Wednesday morning in
the City Hospital, Boston, a few
minutes before completion of a ser-
ious heart operation.
Son: of the late John and Frances
Bogdan, he was born at Breslau,
living there for forty years before
moving to Mildred. Residence in
Mildred was four years, before he
moved to Fernbrook.
For thirteen years he was chief
engineer with the Merchant Mar-
ine. He belonged to Gate of Heaven
Church and its Holy Name Society.
Surviving are his widow, the form-
er Catherine Ryan of Elizabeth, N.J.;
children, John T., Jr., Richard M.,
Susan at home; step-son Michael
Houston at home; brothers and sis-
ters, Anthony, Breslau; Mrs. Blanche
Zeleski, Leo, Newark; Mrs. Stella
Czygier, Mildred; Mrs. Louise Stew-
art, Kenilworth, NJ.
