July 1 through July 8, according
to the Pennsylvania Department of
Commerce.
More than 100,000 persons are
expected for the 1961 event, the
nation’s largest folk festival. As

Occupancy Tax Reminder
For Resort Operators
With the 1961 summer resort sea-
son about to get under way, the
Pennsylvania State and Use Tax
Bureau today directed attention of
vacation spot owners and operators
| to their responsibilities in collecting
| the four per cent occupancy tax
| prescribed by law.
| John P. Gray, Director of the
| Sales and Use Tax Bureau, said
| that the initial step for newcomers
in these seasonal enterprises is to
| register immediately for occupancy
tax licenses. Requiring these licenses
| are operators or owners of hotels,
| motels, summer cottages, cabins,
| lodges, boarding houses and adult
| camps. Those operating throughout
| the year continue to make returns
| on present schedules.
Under the law such establish-
ments must collect four per cent
However, where
person or persons who contract to
“I'remain at one establishment for
thirty days there is no tax, such
patrons being considered “perman-
ent” residents under the law.
Gray said that where boarding
houses or resort operations offer
meals in package deals two returns
must be made: One showing the
tax collected on meals, the other
the amount received in occupancy
tax. In both categories the tax is
four per cent.
Items Girls Need At
Penna. 4-H Congress
Seven Luzerne county 4-H Club
girls will attend the Pennsylvania
4-H Club Congress at The Pennsyl-
vania State University, June 27 - 30.
Each of these girls will want to
select a wardrobe that needs a
minimum of care, observes Ruth
Darbie, extension home economist.
Garments of crease-resistant fab-
| rics are fine, but not a necessity.
Equipment for pressing clothes will
be available to the girls. Each girl
will need to take a sleeping garment
and a robe, soap and a soapdish,
washcloth, bath and hand towels,
toothbrush and paste, hairbrush
and comb, bobby pins, cosmetics
and deodorants, clothesbrush, and
needle and thread,
For campus activities, she'll want
comfortable walking and play shoes.
She'll also need school dresses,
and socks that harmonize with her
dresses. She should include a rain-
coat. and a sweater or lightweight
coat. She may wish to bring cam-
facial tissue, sun lotion, and shower
cap.
Two Fishing Booklets
Issued By Commission
Two publications which will be
of assistance to Commonwealth
fishermen and boaters in seleating
water areas where they can enjoy
their sport have been issued by the
Pennslyvania Fish Commission.
The 24-page booklet, “Fishing
Waters in Pennsylvania,” lists the
fifteen most popular fishing waters
in each county, and also denotes
the species of fish to be found in
each of the waters listed.
The leaflet, “Public Fishing and
Boating Properties and Facilities”
includes a listing of ninety-two
fishing and boating facilities either
| owned by the Fish Commission or
under long term leases or ease-
ments. The leaflet also describes the
acres or miles of fishing waters
available from the respective facil-
ities. In addition, launching, dock-
ing, parking and sanitary facilities
available are noted.
Single copies of these publica-
tions, which were prepared by the
«| Conservation Education and Public
Relations Division, may be obtained
free by writing to the Pennsylvania
