Occupancy Tax Reminder For Resort Operators With the 1961 summer resort sea- son about to get under way, the Pennsylvania State and Use Tax Bureau today directed attention of vacation spot owners and operators | to their responsibilities in collecting | the four per cent occupancy tax | prescribed by law. | John P. Gray, Director of the | Sales and Use Tax Bureau, said | that the initial step for newcomers in these seasonal enterprises is to | register immediately for occupancy tax licenses. Requiring these licenses | are operators or owners of hotels, | motels, summer cottages, cabins, | lodges, boarding houses and adult | camps. Those operating throughout | the year continue to make returns | on present schedules. Under the law such establish- ments must collect four per cent However, where person or persons who contract to “I'remain at one establishment for thirty days there is no tax, such patrons being considered “perman- ent” residents under the law. Gray said that where boarding houses or resort operations offer meals in package deals two returns must be made: One showing the tax collected on meals, the other the amount received in occupancy tax. In both categories the tax is four per cent.
