OR 4-5551 Fire Rages Out Of Control For Nine Hours Children Suspected Of Setting Forest Fire On Bunker Hill Children playing with matches are suspected of having started the brush fire which swept through twenty five acres of trees at Bunker Hill- Sunday afternoon, endangered three homes which were saved only strenuous back-firing on the part of Trucksville volunteer fire- men, and kept the fire-fighting force on the move for nine hours. Vought Long, fire chief, reports that both pieces of apparatus were used, and that volunteers with In- dian tanks penetrated into the woods where trucks could not go. | In that area, there are many ever- greens, which exploded like so many torches as the heat struck | them. The houses fringed with evergreens, the Clanton Carr and the William Clinton homes fairly deep in a woodsy area, the Paul Rutkowski home not quite so vulnerable. During the afternoon, Trucksville firemen. also answered a call to an area high on the ridge of the moun- ; tain above Birch Grove where there are a number of homes, a region which had to be approached through Larksville. This blaze took two hours to extinguish. By the time firemen finished there, Bunker Hill needed more attention. Volunteers had no rest from 1:30 until late at night. Chief Long reports that fire war- dens are investigating. Children, he warned, are letting their parents in ESTATE OF THOMAS A. (or T.A.) HAHN, (died February 22, 1960), late of Wilkes-Barre City.
