Services Today At 2 For Mrs. Verna Rood Mrs. Verna Rood, 84, died shortly before noon on Monday, at her home at Pikes Creek, suffering a cerebral hemorrhage from which she did not |. regain consciousness. 6:30, Children’s Services are scheduled this after- noon at 2, when Rev. Charles Frick will officiate at Bronson Funeral Home and at Maple Grove Ceme- tery. Mrs. Rood attended church on Sunday and was in apparent good health. Not feeling well Monday morning, she returned to bed and died in her sleep. Her death was discovered by her sister, Mrs. Edwin M. Tripp, 87, who made her home: with Mrs. Rood since moving {rom Forty Fort some months ago. Mrs. Rood was active in church work at Maple Grove, belonging to the WSCS, Ladies’ Bible Class, and Dallas Chapter OES. Her husband, Otis, died in Aug- ust, 1957. She was born in Pikes Creek, daughter of the late Josiah M. and Olive Thompson Wolfe. Her father was a prisoner at Andersonville during the Civil War. A graduate of Wyoming Semi- | nary, she taught before her mar- | riage in local one-room schools, among them Maple Grove, which is still standing, though no longer oc- | cupied. She is survived by a daughter, Mrs. Lawrence Stitt, Indiana; one | granddaughter, Mary Alice Stitt; a { niece, Mrs. Norma Cease, New Jer- | sey, and one grandniece; a sister, | Mrs. Edwin Tripp, Pikes Creek. | Former Dallas Resident ‘Dies After Long Illness Mrs. Rosetta Heller, formerly of | Dallas, died Thursday night in Den- ville, N. Haertter, Pioneer Ave- nue, was buried in Forty Fort Ceme- tery last Monday, following services conducted from a Forty Fort funeral home by Rev. Herbert E. Pickett, Jr. Mr. Haertter, 78, ill for several months, died at Nesbitt Memorial Hospital October 9. Mining {stitute for some years, and a member of the board of examiners for mine foremen in the Thirteenth Anthracite district. Nine years ago, shortly before re- tirement, he moved from Kingston to Pioneer Avenue. He was a member of Kingston Presbyterian Church, serving for many years as a trustee.
