BASEBALL NOTES After getfing by a strone Lazarus Senior-teenage nine is in the thick “ion. «of things in league competi- will be with North End at North End on Friday and Plymouth at home on Saturday. The areca team can take all the marbles with two victories in these games. especially since Plymouth was dumped Saturday in, an upset by St. Theres’s. Hank Majeski, former third baseman for the Phil- adelphia A’s famous infield of Majeski, Joost, Suder and Fain, is coaching the Back Mountain team. Little League playoffs will start next week. Back Mountain boys will face a Pittston team in the first round. Trying to pick six- teen boys for the all-star team listed by the coaches is quite a problem but League President, Bob Parry, has promised that this team will be announced shortly, The reason for high scoring this season is not due to lack of good pitching but rather to rough con- ditions ‘under which the infielders must play. The infield, as most of us know, was never finished as the league officials would have desired to see it finished. Rather than miss several games and grow grass in :the playing drea the league decided to go ahead with the season. - The youngsters deserve a | lot of credit doing as well as they do.. Top soil and seeding will be placed this fall so that area as in the past when our local little league field was always chosen as one of the playoff sites by Dis- trict officials. The interest shown by managers of the teams certainly deserves meéntion. They are giving time week after week. On Monday morning people passing the field at West- moreland high school were making complimentary remarks about how long Mr. Baker and Mr. Darrow the field | will once again be the pride of the | were out there throwing strikes at their batters in order to help them overcome. any weaknesses they may have. This is typical of the man- agers throughout the local little teen - age and senior teen - age leagues.
