WILLIAMSON, Secretary | Back Mountain families, descend- ants of Samuel, Norton, John and Elijah Montross, originally branched from Reuben Montross, the early settler whe lived along the Susque- hanna River near Keelersburg, met Sunday, July 12, at Gordon Mather’s Knob Hill, Trucksville. | Attendance was not as large as in many years. The thirty-eight who came this year enjoyed fine fellow- | ship, each. feeling a certain pride | and gratitude for- the completion | of the authentic Family History and | Geneological Record. | The name had been hard to trace | back to its origins in Scotland, Bel- | glum, Holland, France, Canada and lat last, North America, because of | the various changes in spelling. It took the research of Drs. John W. and Eve Taylor, of Bethesda, Mary- land, to culminate all efforts in the 1000-page, ‘Montross: A Family History.” ! Libraries all over the U.S.A. and Canada have purchased “the book because of this widely scattered and numerously progenated Montross tributed in various ways to com- munity, state and national growth. Montrosses present at the 52nd Reunion, one of four similar Mon- tross Reunions meeting annually, discussed, in true Back Mountain spirit, making a gift of the book to Back Mountain Library. Many other pear Family, who with others, have con- | familiar Back Mountain names and | bits of early settlement history ap- | in the history. The ‘minutes! | bear a note to do this very soon. | since we learned the library would be pleased to accept and would like to start, a section for family his- tories and geneological records rela- tive to the Back Mountain region. Picnic dinners were enjoyed. Busi- ness session was presided over by Emma Himmler, president; Helen C. Williamson, secretary; and treasurer Carl Montross gave reports. Standing votes of thanks were given to the Mathers for use of their | lovely grove and to Mrs. Walter | Kitchen, Idetown, for her gift of several lovely good cheer cards in! stamped envelopes for the secretary | to send to members of the family, ill or shut-in, unable to attend this ! reunion. Recognition was given to several people taking athletic and other | honors in secondary schools and | colleges. We enjoyed ice cream purchased | by Charlotte Mathers. A new slate of officers was elected | for two years; former officers de- | | sired to resign after two years of service. New officers are: president, Warren Montross, Noxen; vice pres- | ident, Clark Montross, Tunkhannock; secretary, Alberta Montross Smith, Kingston; treasurer, Marlene Clark Hardisky, ians, Floyd Montross, Noxen and Helen C.
