Our trip was only five minutes old when Joe Gates, Jr. landed the first bass which was every bit of six inches. About noon, we decided to eat lunch on the water to save time, so all the boats tied up in a group. «| We had two portable gas stoves so we cooked right in the boats. Be- lieve me this was a lot of fun. Having to cover about seven miles to reach our camping site at Me- shoppen, we had to step up the pace. All eight of the rowboats lined up in three groups and the for a couple miles. Just at sunset we reached our campsite, and while pitching camp it suddenly started to pour and it lasted about ten minutes which was just enough to soak a good part of our gear and insure an uncom- fortable damp night. Although that evening we had our biggest meal which was more like a banquet with chicken barbecued in Harry Burns’ famous barbecue sauce over glowing charcoal. Sunday morning we crossed the river to Meshoppen and attended religious services. Soon after we started drifting again, the biggest fish was caught, an eighteen inch bass. How it was caught is something you might not believe, but it actually jumped into least a foot and landed right on the lap of Paul Gates. The whopper might have felt sorry for Paul be- cause a few minutes earlier his rod and reel fell overboard and was not found despite the half hour under- water search. William Gates landed the biggest fish on a line, a sixteen-inch bass, and his son, Billy, came close to tying with a fifteen-inch catfish. The remainder of the trip went fast because of swifter water and before we knew it we reached our ORchard 4-1211. & Son, OR 4-8311. \ destination at Vosburg. While some prefer shavings or sand, I'd surely not use them if STRAW were at hand. Ringmasters will again be Jim Sands, Tunkhannock (western events); John Blackman, Jr., West Dallas; John Carey, Jr., Shomokin. This is truly a tiring job and these men have given most generously of their time and effort in behalf of the Lehman Fire Company. Show veterinarian will be Dr. R. C. Post; Walter Marger, Idetown, is black- smith. The voice of “Gil” Tough, horse show announcer for many years, will again resound among the hills of Lehman Friday evening and Saturday as he calls for the gaits of the horses in the various classes. The public address system at the horse show is installed by Tom Finn of Oakhill, with electric wiring by Bruce Varner, Meeker. Lehman ambulance will be stationed at the show grounds just in case of mishaps. Wes Moore, Lehman merchant, will be assisted by Lew Ide and Willis Ide in man- ning the ambulance. The Red Cross will also be on hand. Every person attending the Fri- day evening and Saturday shows is asked to wear his admission ticket (except those 12 years of age and under). Last year many folks, impatient to be on the show grounds, passed by the admission line and entered without paying. If these same people had paused to consider the tremendous effort put forth by the Volunteer Fire Com- pany in order to stage the horse show and thus finance fire and ambulance service for the township, we're sure they would be more than willing to pay their small admission charge.
