Vin- cent entered the army in June 1957 and completed his basic training at Fort Riley, Kansas. New School Bus Lehman-Jackson-Ross joint school district has purchased a sixty- passenger school bus from Motor Twins, and will take delivery in August. It will be used to replace the bus which for twenty years has been driven by Russell Ide on the Lake Silkworth route. Lester Squier, supervising princi- pal, states that it is perfectly prac- tical for a large school district to finance a school bus, as if the bus is purchased new, ten percent each year can be chalked off as invest- ment, and reimbursement is forth- coming from the State for expenses. Inc., Dallas, for “their foresight and imagination in advancing dynamic | concepts of consumer selling, crea- ‘tive merchandising, and effective advertising to make American fam- ilies aware of brand name products and a better standard of living.” Burning Diesel Exhaust Sets Three Brush Fires Trucksville firemen dealt with three brush fires set by burning carbon from the exhaust of a Lehigh Valley Diesel laboring up the steep grade on the afternoon of Fourth of July. Two broke out in the wooded area close behind the Kingsley resi- dence adjacent to Lehigh Street, and one immediately after the train had crossed the trestle spanning Carverton Road within sight of the home of Vought Long, Trucksville fire chief. All fires were spotted instantly. Firemen turned out with brush-fighting equipment, and spec- tators enjoyed the free fireworks. Last Wednesday night, Trucks- ville asked for a hand from West Wyoming, Franklin, and Shaver- town, when the Saxe store at the corner of Carverton Road and West Eighth Street burned to the ground. The store, the property of Scranton Spring Brook Water Company, stood vacant for sixteen years. Fire of undetermined origin had made headway before the alarm was sounded at 9 p.m. Trucksville fire- men remained until 1 am. Former Dallas Resident Dies In Yonkers, N.Y. Mrs. Helen Wilkes, a former resi- dent of Dallas before moving to Yonkers eight years ago, died Thurs- day afternoon after an illness of several months. Jones, executive vice- president of the Middle Atlantic Lumbermen’s Association, presented the awards which were specially de- signed and sculptured by Sol Kent Carson, artist and art consultant for the School District of Bristol. Joseph W. Trickett, Jr., president of the Llanerch Lumber Corporation, was chairman, and Martin Cohen, president of Hog Island Lum- ber Company was master of» cere- monies. The Committee for the Lumber- men’s Forest in Israel, under whose auspices the awards were presented, is a non-sectarian and interdenom- inational industry-wide organiza- tion, which sponsors the planting of one million trees in the Negev desert of Israel with the help of the Jewish National Fund, Israel’s Land Development Agency. From a study of 1500 Retail Lum- ber Companies in the Middle Atlan- tic area by a committee of industry representatives, five concerns in each of five respective categories according to their annual gross sales were nominated.
