How- ever, despite the weather and driv- ing conditions only two leagues, Maturi’s Sunday Night Mixed League and Irem Women Golfers, cancelled out. > ¢ Showing the same stamina that pulled her through a serious illness recently, Lucille Bittenbender brav- ed the storm Tuesday night and arrived at the bowling lanes on crutches to give a boost to her Tro- janeer team of Denmon’s League. Her team mates were happy to have her back on the bench. Jim Traver rolled a game of 247 last week and posted men’s weekly high. Ladies’ high went to Rose Unger after she bowled a beautiful 217. So far this week, Bill Allabaugh’s 237° and Mary Weale’'s 216 are posted for high scores. Howie-Davis Classic Crown A team met Franconi Auto at Exeter Recreation Center Satur- day night and lost 3 points. On an off-night for everyone, Sid Fielding was high man with only 191-518. Charlie Williams also had a single game of 191. B team played at home against Main Diner and lost all 4 points. Highest scores bowled were W. Hogg’s 204 and T. Simons’ 202. T. Simons had a total of 543 for three games. Bevan’s Appliance took 4 points from Crown C at Bavitz, Nanticoke. Nick B. was high for C team with 203-505. Lake Women The Maples team holds first place in the Harveys Lake Women’s Ser- vice Club with a total of 45 games won. Second place is filled by the Old Hickorys with 38 games and the Pines and Spruce are tied for third with 35 games. High total pins of 1876 were rolled by Maples last Tuesday and the Oaks had single high of 677. Mary Alice Whitesell was high in- dividual again with 168 and 428. Idetown Bears Mike Tworek and Becky Caster- line are still in the limelight of the Idetown Bears League. Becky was high last week with a 142-405 ser- ies and Mike rolled 187 and 497. The Teddys had high game with 683 and the Pandas had 1890 total pins. The Teddys lead the league with 43 points. A three-way tie holds the remaining teams with 26 points each. Church League The race for the Championship continued at the usual pace during the past week as Shavertown B and! Dallas B took 4 points each from their opponents, Carverton B and Trucksville C respectively. Trucks- ville A retained third place by tak- ing 3% points from Orange, while East Dallas took advantage of the Lutheran team 3-1. A. Vanderhoff, Lehman floor sand- ing expert, smoothed out the Maples with a high series of 651 (224, 192, 235), setting a record for the season. Bob Moore's high 240 set the pace for his Dallas B team as it took honors for high series and single game with 2615-896. : Shavertown B leads the Back Mountain Church League with 61 points. ‘ St. Paul’s Lutheran Women The Lazy Daisies highlight St. Paul’s Lutheran Church League lead- ing the gang with 14 wins. It took high single game with 718 pins last Thursday but lost total pins to the Roses who bowled 2017. Lila Lozo was high with 198 and a series of 504, Dallas Woman’s Club The Robins and Wrens are flying close in first place of Dallas Wom- an’s Club League with 7 games each, the Robins leading with most pins. The Bluebirds and Canaries threaten with 6 games each. The Bluebirds, although third in games won, have registered 6208 pins to date, 7 ahead of the Robins. The Robins bowled high single game of 581 last Thursday and the Orioles totalled 1665 for top series. Margaret Milne, Dallas, had a 201 game and Evelyn Roberts, Beau- mont, bowled a series of 489 for high. Elmcrest Teenagers The Elmcrest Teenagers League was back again this week with the Knights in good condition as they took single and three game high with 582-1539. This puts the Knights just 10 pins behind Imperials who lead with 46.5. The Zorroes are in between with 39.5. Jack Barnes scored 183 for single high and Ned Griffith had high series of 435. St. Paul’s Brotherhood The Breakers came out of the slump it’s been in since the second half began, when they took 4 points from the Wonders. Top place Spec- taculars took 3 points from the Blazers and still hold first place with 17 points. The Chargers took 3 points from the Stunners and hold second place, 5 points ahead of their opponent. It hit 907 for one game and 2591 for a 3-game series. Arthur Morgan was high man of the evening with 233-618. Community Service LaBar’s Giants split 2 and 2 with the Phillies this week, while Wil- liams’ Dodgers took 4 points from the Pirates, putting themselves in second place of the Community Ser- vice League with 16 games, only 1 behind the league leading Giants. Orchard Farm Yankees, winning 3 out of 4 against the Braves, are crowding both teams with 15. The Dodgers rolled highest games with 872 for a single and 2427 for 3 games. R. Pritchard had a single game of 211 and individual high series was scored by P. Ambrose with 575. Neighborhood League Elston and Gould still hold on to the top position in the Back Moun- tain Neighborhood League with a record of 8 victories out of 9 games played. Bob Moore, Printer team, broke the tie with Robinson's Ken- nels, winning 7 out of 9 games while Robinson’s, with 6 games to its credit, are now tied with Dallas Dairy in third place. Dallas Dairy had 2708 total pins on Monday night and Bob Moore team had a single game of 996. Al Dymond was . high individual with 249-642. Back Mountain Firemen Two’ of the highest single games ever bowled in the Firemen’s League || were 959 by Lehman A and 958 by Jackson A. on Monday night. Starting at the opening whistle, the Scotties piled it on, and won the first period 15-3. This margin was never relinquished throughout the gameywhich ended 62-46. West Wyoming came to life in the second period, and really tried to make a ball game of it, but Ide or Lopasky always came through for Lehman. + The third and fourth periods were hard fought. Sportslight Dartmouth suffered its first Ivy League defeat Saturday night, when Yale took it over in a well played game. This does not cost the Green the championship. Unless there is a complete reversal of form by all teams, Dartmouth should win. Temple had a little trouble in the Nation’s Capital Saturday night, but finally tore loose in the second half to beat George Washington Univer- sity, and run its winning streak to seventeen. Temple has some tough games remaining, but should be able to take care of them. As of now Cincinnati appears to be the hottest team 'in the country, and should cop the NCAA cham- pionship. Updyke Collapses While Shoveling Snow Rev. Roland Updyke, pastor of Roaring Brook Baptist Church, suf- fered a heart attack Sunday morn- ing at 10 while shovelling snow from his walk, and was admitted by Lake Silkworth ambulance to Nanticoke Memorial Hospital. Rev. Oscar Saxe, pastor of Oakdale Methodist Church, a near neighbor, saw him on Monday, and reported that he had no further pain but | would remain at the hospital for a few days, for a second cardiogram.
