Elliott speak on cancer research Wednesday evening at the monthly dinner meeting at Irem Country Club. Mrs. Elliott, executive director of the Luzerne County unit of the National Cancer Society, and a re- cent delegate to the State Conven- tion in Pittsburgh, outlined services and educational program carried out by the organization, and showed a film “The Other City.” One in every four of all of us, Mrs. Elliott said, will develop cancer. Eternal vigi- lance for signs of danger is the price of escape from the dread killer which is the second largest cause of death. / Mrs. Roscoe B. Brotherhood To Serve Supper Saturday Night Brotherhood of Saint Paul’s Luth- eran Church will serve a roast beef supper on Saturday evening at the church from 5 to 7. The menu consists of roast beef, mashed potatoes, gravy, fresh frozen lima beans, apple sauce, cabbage salad, carrot and celery sticks, home-made cake, and coffee. The supper had been postponed from two weeks ago when illness among the members forced cancellation. Walter Gosart, Obed Hontz and Carl Hirner have charge of the food. Ralph Gerhart is supervising the dining room, Fred Eck is head wait- er, and Stanley Wills has charge of the clean-up detail. The public is cordially invited to attend. Lehman Operetta Tonight At 8 In School Gym Jay Ruckel as Tom Sawyer, and Kenneth Ellsworth as Huck Finn, have stellar roles in the operetta “Tom Sawyer,” scheduled for 8 to- night in the Lehman-Jackson-Ross High School auditorium. Members of fourth, fifth and sixth grades under direction of Rebecca Button, vocal music instructor, will be heard in the chorus. Change was made at the request of the faculty to open this year with a teachers’ tea and open house for parents on November 11, start of National Education Week. The fac- ulty urges all parents to visit the school and attend classes from 12:45 to 2:25. Tea will be served in the caffeteria, where parents may visit and consult the teachers. DR.
