¢ A EAA So SS A os SEIS : =z EIR a TA A 1 oma DALLAS, PENNSYLVANIA ‘Bowling Nev Bowling News Written by Bob Bachman Wayne Harrison, Janet Lee Lead Crown Bowlers For Week's Prize Denmon’s Girl's League Becomes Tight Race As Four Teams Battle For Top Spot Wayne Harrison, Trucksville, bowling for Trucksville Fire- men, had a big night; saved the second game for his team, and then went on to a 244-game in the third to set two new league | records, win high single and 3-game scores for the night as well as having the highest men’s score posted for the weekly prize. ‘Janet Lee, Midland Drive, Dallas, has yet to be beaten for this week’s high women’s score as she has a 201 posted, a fine game she bowled in league competition with the Dallas Senior Women’s Club. Bertha 'Zimmerman keeps pouring it on as she has pulled her Plus 100’s, in the Denmon’s Service Sta- tion League, up from 4 points total to 20 points in the last few weeks and only 5 points back of the league leading Super 5-D’s. The Milemast- ers have dropped into second spot with 22 points and the Trojaneers have 21 to hold third position . . . this is a real battle and getting more interesting each week. Bertha Zimmerman had high sin- gle and 3-game totals again this week with a 166-458 record. Peg Williams led the Harveys Lake Women’s Club Tuesday night with a 181-444 for single and 3- game honors. The Poplars top this league with 48 wins 24 losses, while the Old Hickory’s are close behind with 47%-23%. : ' Bobby Otto and Eleanor McShea shared ‘the honors last week in the Dallas Senior Women’s Club. Otto 445 for high 3-game and McShea 171 for high single. ' The Jacuars lead this league with 27-12, Thunderbirds have 21-18, Corvettes 17-22, and the Falcons 13-26. Bonnie Davis did it again for the rem Women Golfer's League as she hit 195-515 for the day to lead the pack. Ethel Woolbert made a valiant try as she scored a 184 game. Kear's Putters lead this group with 10 wins in the second half. Jenkin’s Spoons have 7 and Kroll‘s Brassies have 6. Borthwick Best Teener Young Jimmie Borthwick came through with the best game of his young bowling career, topping the Elmcrest Teenage League with a 139-game. Ray Hindrichs, old re- liable, was high 3-game winner with 357. The Imperials and the Speedsters have tied it up with 8 wins and 9 losses each. The Swivel-Hips have +won 3 and lost 14 while the un- fortunate Loafers have still to notch one point in the win column. The Loafers blame : their poor showing on the poor attendance of their regular players and feel they could really do something if the rest of the team would “get on the ball” and come out every Friday. 3-Way Tie in Mixed League Louise Goddard, Lee West and Ethel Woolbert locked horns in a 3-way tie for total pins Sunday night as they all came through with a 602 total for three games. Chuck Lawley was high 3-game winner for the men with 515 while Rose Unger and Doc Hungerford had high single games of 181 and 191 respectively. Goddard’s team leads with 13-7, West's team is close with 12%-7%, Woolbert’s 9%410%, Unger’s 9-11, Hungerford’s 9-11 and Pritchard's 7-13. Among the Male Competitors The mystery in the Whitesell Bros. Bowling League is, “What's hap- pened to all the 200-plus bowlers?” For the second week in a row the high score is under 200. This week it was ‘Charlie Brobst who led the league with only a 173 game. El- wood Whitesell was high for three games with 495. Someone needs to give these boys a heart-to-heart talk and find out what's the trouble. One thing that’s not helping mat- ters is the lack of interest among several of the team members who fail to report regularly. The Nail Benders continued their winning ways as they took #4 points from the hapless Hammerheads while the Pencil Pushers and Wood Butchers split with 2 points each. As reported earlier in the column, Wayne Harrison was the big gun among the Firemen and his team is now only 2 points behind the league-leading Jackson team. Jack- son leads with 33, Trucksville has 31, Franklin 23, Shavertown 21, Dallas 19, Lehman 14, Kunkle No. 2 has 13 and Kunkle No. 1 has 4. Allen Montross is not only a good man in the Post Office he’s evident- ly a good bowler too, as we see that he was high man for St. Paul's Lutheran League posting a high 225-568 series on Friday night. In this league the Chargers took over first place by taking 3 points from the Wonders. The Breakers took 3 from the Splashers, Needlers took 4 from the Blazers and the Spectaculars took 4 from the Stun- ners. ? In the Back Mountain Church League Dallas “B” moved two points ahead of the other teams largely+ on the fine performance of Willard Lozo with a 235-4649 series. Cliff Garris, also on this team, was a big help with a 536 total. Sidney Fielding had high single game of 248. : Dale Zimmerman's 220-212-208 games moved the Lutheran "a team from 9th position into 6th. Standings are now Dallas “B” 52, Shavertown “C” 50, Dallas “A” 48, Mt. Zjon and Lutheran “B” have 4i, Lutheran “A” 40, Trucksville “C” and “A” teams each have 39. makes a better mousetrap, the Int- Old Saw Rewritten: If a man ernal Revenué Service will beat 3 path to his door. Ww Brownie Troop 27 Has Fourth Birthday Party Brownie Troop 27 celebrated its fourth birthday Tuesday at Dallas Township school. In their flag ceremony Troop 27 used a new troop flag given them by Donald Smith. The color guard included Lonna Smith, Randi Wright, Patsy Block and Judy Tay- lor. ’ The Brownie Story was panto- mimed by Elaine Dixon, Avinell Evans, Jefi Flack, Anne Marie Gobel, and Cathy Evans with Cynthia Gal- letley as narrator. The properties were handled by Janet Balshaw, Candy Williams, Patti Larson, Bev- erly Roberts and Linda John. Membership cards were presented to the Brownies and the eight Com- mitteewomen. Membership stars went to fourth grade Brownies in recognition of another year of active participation. Anne Miller was invested, escort- ed by Linda Brague, making a total of thirty Brownies in Troop 27. Birthday candles were lighted by Jennie Reed, Ruth Higgins, Patsy Block and Nancy Covert. New Location For Driver's Examinations | against four defeats by downing Pennsylvania State Police an- nounce a change in the examination point for motor vehicle operators. Captain Harold T. Newman, com- | manding officer of Troop “B”, ‘an- nounces the abandonment of the old examination point at Forty Fort Town Hall, and the inauguration of the newly constructed examination course adjoining the state police barracks at Wyoming. Captain Newman states that effec- tive, Wednesday, February 20th; and every Wednesday and Saturday thereafter, between the hours of 8:30 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. examina- tions will be conducted at the Wyo- ming course; which is one of several newly constructed modern courses throughout the Commonwealth, de- signed to test the driving ability, alertness, and habits of the prospec- tive driver.
