Mrs. Dora Major
Burial From Home
Saturday At 2 p.m.
Services by the Berean Bible
Class will be held tonight at the
home of the late Mrs. Dora Major.
Funeral services will be conducted
from the home tomorrow afternoon
at 2 by Rev. Robert D. Yost, follow-
ed by burial in Lehman Cemetery.
Friends may call tonight.
Pall-bearers will be Chester Bar-
rall, Raymond Searfoss, Elbert
Coombs, William Trethaway, and
Russell Cease, members of Jackson
Grange 1312, and Marvin Yeust.
Mrs. Major, 83, died Tuesday
night at Nesbitt Memorial Hospital,
where she was apparently making
progress after surgery performed a
few days earlier. She was admitted
as an emergency patient June 20.
Until illness struck, she had been in
excellent health.
A native of Chase, daughter of
the late George and Mary Atherholt
Johnson, who were of early pioneer
stock in this area, she moved to
Hayfield Farm upon marriage to

Robert Major. The couple sold to
John Conyngham in 1910, but Mr.
Major continued to superintend the
place until 1917, when the family
moved to Lehman.
Mr. Major died in 1936, and a
year later Mrs. Major, with her
daughter Myrtle, moved to Shaver-
town.
For almost forty years Mrs. Major
was active in. Grange affairs, be-
longing to Jackson Grange 1312,
Pomona Grange 44, and State and
National Grange organizations. She
was a member of the Berean Bible
Class, Shavertown Methodist Church.
She has a son, Corey, at Lehman;
a daughter Myrtle, at home; seven
grandchildren and ten great grand-
children.

Melvin Evarts Buried
At Maple Grove
Melvin Evarts, Hunlock Creek,
tery Tuesday afternoon, Rev. Tho- |
mas Bouch conducting services from
the Bronson Funeral Home.
Mr. Evarts, 49, passed away Sat-
urday night after an illness of a
year and a half which followed an
accident in which he was pinned
against a stone wall by a heavy
piece of farm machinery. His fath-
er, the late James Evarts, mail car-
rier for Hunlock Creek for many
years, also died in the prime of life.
His mother, the late Elizabeth Hunt-
er Evarts, passed away two years
ago.
Mr. Evarts was born, raised and
spent his life at Hunlock Creek. He
was a member of Five Forks United
Brethren Church. There is an ex-
tensive family connection in the
Back- Mountain.
Guyette Baby Buried
At St. Nicholas
Christopher Guyette, six-weeks-
old son of Mr. and Mrs. William
Guyette, Main Road, Trucksville,
died Wednesday morning at Mercy
Hospital.
Also surviving are brothers, Wil-
liam and Jeffrey; maternal grand-

George Jenkins Buried
At Kocher Cemetery
George Jenkins, lifelong resident
of Harveys Lake, was buried in
Kocher Cemetery, Ruggles, Tuesday
afternoon. Services were conducted
by Rev. Henry C. Kraft from the
Nulton Funeral Home in Beaumont.
Pallbearers were: John Edwards,
Benjamin Rood, Morris Johnson,
Wayne Smith, George Guzo, David
Deater.
Mr. Jenkins, 74, died at his home
Saturday, after a short illness.
Born in Noxen, son of the late
Theophilus and Jennie Gebler Jenk-
ins, Mr. Jenkins was a carpenter
by trade
He is survived by sisters and
brothers: Mrs. Lillie Scott and Mrs.
Laura Hasson, Atlantic City; Mrs.
William Knight, Cortland, N. Y.;
Mrs. Arthur Hoppes, Benjamin and
Cornelius Smith, Harveys Lake.
Summer Band Program
Schedule Six Weeks
Westmoreland’s summer band
program will start July 16, contin-
ue for six weeks, until August 23.
The usual two outdoor concerts will
be given at the conclusion of the
course, one at Westmoreland, and
one at Dallas Elementary school.
Cards are being mailed to students
to acquaint them with dates and
hours. Lester R. Lewis, instructor
in instrumental music, will conduct.
