School Christmas vacation starts
Thursday, Dec. 22, at 2 p. m.
Mrs. Fay Smith and daughter,
Norma, were at West Orange, N. J.,
last weekend.
The Christmas P. T. A. Party was
well attended Friday, Dec. 9, in
spite of the stormy weather. Fol-
lowing the playing of carols “Nelson
and His Puppets” began the even-
ing’s entertainment with worth-
while hints on children’s behavior
prior to ‘Christmas. The games,
prepared by the teachers, were en-
joyed. Appropriate games, prizes,
favors, and tasty refreshments
totaled a most successful party for
which these committees are to be
commended: Program, Frederick
Weiss, James Kuhl, and Donald

Bird Club Plans
For Bird Count
Audubon Tour Will
Be December 27
The Library Bird Club decided at
Thursday night's meeting in the
Library Annex, to follow procedure
! of the Audubon Society in taking a
bird-count two days after Christ-
mas. Members will meet at the
Acme parking lot December 27 at 8
a.m. and visit spots where winter
birds congregate, starting at Har-
veys Lake, taking in Huntsville,
Lehman, and possibly Perrins Marsh
and Ceasetown.
Edwin Johnson, president, re-
ported that an average of twenty
species are seen commonly, and
that with all members on the alert,
more varieties may be sighted.
Snow buntings are around, and
several pileated woodpeckers, also
I? rare variety of junco.
{ Harry Allen reported boat-tail
i grackles and siskins sighted, and a
| goldfinch which winters over his
porch light.
The Sunday following the Bird
| Club meeting was a good one for
bird-watching. Frank Jackson, Ed
Johnson, and Mr. Allen saw a num-
ber of varieties and in larger flocks
than usual. Half a dozen evening
grosbeaks came to Mr. Allen’s feed-
ing station, advance scouts for the
| invasion to be expected late in
January.
Anybody who is interested in
participating in the bird count may
| join the group by calling Edwin
Johnson, Norton Avenue, Dallas.
