Shavers Story On Lepers Picked Up By AP Service Pvt. M. Gail Shaver, son of Mr. and Mrs. Milford Shaver, has re- cently had a story on the Airakuen Leper Colony picked up by the As- sociated Press. Pvt. Shaver, sta- tioned on Okinawa, writes for the Stars and Stripes, for the Ryukyhan Review at Fort Buckner, and for a commercial paper, the Okinawa Morning Star. Research on the leper colony, the title Airakuen translated to read “Garden of Com- fort and Love,” took some time, says Pvt. Shaver. The finished story was edited by his superior officer, Lt. Marvin Chase. Gail is a graduate of the School of Journalism, Pennsylvania State University. The first shot at’ the target in his own yard was without incident, on the second shot the rifle flew to pieces. Joe was getting ready for bear season, and the rifle was one he had used for years.
