Silas Eveland Buried
At Maple Grove, Aged 81
Silas Eveland, 81, was laid to
rest in Maple Grove Cemetery Wed-
nesday afternoon. Rev. Albert Hil-
lard conducted services from the
Bronson Funeral Home. He died
Sunday night at the home of his
daughter, Mrs. Thomas Swire, Loy-
alville, with whom he had made
his home for the past twelve years.
His wife, the late Lavinia Eveland,
died at Loyalville in 1950.
A native of Benton, he spent most
of his life in Kingston. He was a
member of the Pentecostal Church
in Luzerne.
Surviving are three daughters:
Mrs. Thomas Swire; Mrs. Abraham
Rittenhouse, Mountain Grove; Mrs.
Edward Hayes, Bethlehem; seven-
teen grandchildren, twenty - four
great-grandchildren, one great-great
grandchild; brothers: John, Still-
water; George, Wilkes-Barre; sis-
ters: Mrs. Lulu Esser and Mrs. Grace
Lilbunguth, Saylorsburg.

Made Captain
Air Corps Promotes
Former Local Man
Lt. Al Morse, son-in-law of Mr.
and Mrs. Harry Post Sr., of Cliffside
Avenue, Trucksville, has been pro-
moted to Captain by the Air Force.
Capt. Morse, his wife, the former
Jane Post, and two children, live
at Siawasse Circle, Mt. Clemens,
Mich.
Capt. Morse enlisted in the Air
Force during April 1943 and ob-
tained his pilot's wings and com-
mission as Second Lieutenant at
Moody Field, Valdosta, Georgia, on
September 8, 1944.
He was returned to inactive duty
in October 1945 and attended
Wilkes College until 1949. He held
several civilian positions and was
active in local amateur baseball cir-
cles until he was recalled to active
duty January 1, 1951.
He attended Radar School at
Keesler Air Force Base and then
was assigned to Alaska where he
spent two years accompanied by
his wife and family.
He is presently with 661st. AC &
W Squadron at Selfridge Air Force
Base in Michigan.

Wears Well —When choosing ma-
terial for children’s clothes, remem-
ber that a heavy material is not
necessarily a durable one. Often
lightweight materials wear just as
well and are less tiring to the child.
Softens Wax—If you wax kitchen
cabinets, don’t dust or wipe with
a cloth that has any furniture polish
on it. The oil in the polish softens
the wax and destroys the hard,
smooth, dust-resistant finish. Doris

Connect Freezer—A home freezer
should be connected to an individ-
ual electric circuit. There's less
danger of interrupted current serv-
ice this way.
Looks Wilted—A stale carrot will
be soft and yield to the touch. Both
the root and tops will look limp

young child to “read” his picture
book when there is just one picture
on a page.

Ruxiliary Board Meets
With Mrs. Ben Edwards
Women’s Auxiliary Board of the
Prince of Peace Church met Tues-
day evening at the home of Mrs.
Ben H. Edwards, Dallas. Mrs. C. A.
Woodruff presided.
Devotions were led by Mrs. Alfred
James, followed by the secretary’s
and treasurer’s reports. Mrs. Ralph
Smith submitted bids on new cup-
boards for the church kitchen. Pro-
ceeds from the spring rummage sale
will be used toward a mimeograph
machine.
Mrs. Charles Brooke announced
that Rev. V. M. Mathan of South
India will speak at the Parish Cov-
ered Dish supper, April 16th, and
at the Men’s Corporate Communion
breakfast, April 17th.
Reservations for the bus trip to
the United Nations, Wednesday,
March 30th, must be made Tuesday,
with Mrs. Brooke.
