During the days of Lent we can, if we will, walk the dusty roads of Palestine with Jesus’ disciples; we can stop with them and listen to His words and see His magnificent deeds of healing and of life-changing. We can go with Him through the events of the last days of His earthly life, the triumphal procession on Palm Sunday, the cleans- ing of the Temple, the Last Supper, the watch in the Gar- den of Gethsemane, and the shameful events of His trial. As we do this in the spirit of Christian imagination we shall be forced to examine ourselves as Christians to see if we are among the sleepers in the Garden, to see if we are among those who have fled when men show their hate and their disdain and their enmity toward Him. Are we among those who have denied Him when the hour of the Cross drew near? If we will let the events of the days of Lent become real for us, as real as the events of our day by day living, we shall enter into an intimacy with Him such as we have never known before and all life will henceforth be differ- ent. hs If we would have this richness. of experience, we can- not expect it to come casually; it:might be sought; it will come only because of the yearning, seeking of our hearts. We shall have to spend time each day with the Gospel record, and we shall have to think and feel our way into - the heart of it. We shall have to share regularly in the services of our church, where we come face to face with Him in wor- ship and in adoration, and where we listen for His word spoken with today’s accent. We shall have to examine our lives to see what holds - us back from the richness of the Christian life. The yield- ing of any habit or way of living, the abandoning of any cherished hate or impure thought, or desire, the humble giving of ourselves without reserve—these are so little to give when we remember that He gave Himself for us. Love so amazing, so divine Demands my soul, my life, my all. As we share His experience and give ourselves with- out reserve, we shall enter, understandingly, humbly, gratefully, into the full glory of Easter Day. Rev. RoBert DEWITT YOST .
