The stylized tree above stands 32 at its widest part. The “star” on the tree is a rubber ball which has been cut in half and had C-7% bulbs placed in notches in the surface. Lamp cord was brought up from the base of the tree into the rubber ball. There, clamp-on type sockets hold the five “star” bulbs as shown in the drawing. The ball was held together with rubber ce- ment and cello- phane tape. To make the tree, attach a 32- inch wooden dowel to a six-inch square wooden base as shown at the top of the drawing above. Next, turn the juice can upside down, punch seven holes in the bottom, line with electrical tape and insert one string of multiple tree lights and sockets. Also, make a hole in center of can for dowel to pass through. Then, make eight holes around the sides of the can, line with tape and position one string of series-type Christmas lights with foil reflectors. Now, place the “lighteed” can over the dowel and rest on wooden platform. Next, suspend the wire hoop (if you don’t have a wire hoop, make one from several thicknesses of coat hangers) from the top of the tree with fine strands of wire. Hang various colored shiny ornaments in- side the tree with black thread. These will reflect the bright images of the Christmas tree lights which protrude through the upper surface of the '‘tin-can” base. Then, alternate strands of silver glass beads ‘and gold tinsel from the top of the dowel to the wire hoop allowing just enough slack to create a graceful curve.
