PAGE ELEVEN State OKs New Traffic Lights Kingston Township Will Ask For Bids Kingston Township Civic Associa- tion’s first efforts toward commun- ity improvement have born fruit. This week the Pennsylvania Sec- retary of Highways approved the installation of traffic signals at the intersection of Carverton Road and Memorial Highway. Installation of traffic lights was one of the first projects on the Civic Association’s agenda, and was given full support by Kingston Township Supervisors, The new lights, which will cost in the neighborhood of $2,000. will probably not be installed before June as the Supervisors avill have to advertise for bids before they can be purchased. As approved by the State High- way Depantmenlt, the lights will be of a type that remain green on . Memorial Highway (Legislative Route 311) and red om [Carverton Road (Legislative Route 40125) un- til actuated automatically by wve- hicular detector units or pedestrian push button controls on Carverton Road. Thus they will differ from the semi-automatic type in use at Harris Hill and Center Street in- tersections. During a recent traffic survey made by [State Highway Depart- ment engineers at the Carverton Road intersection, it was found that 89 per cent of the traffic moves on Memorial Highway as compared to 11 per cent on ‘Carverton Road. For wears the intersection has been one of the most dangerous along Memorial Highway and there have been several fatalities in the immediate vicinity. Continued growth of the Trucksville Gardens and Meadowcrest sections of the Township has also greatly increased the flow of traffic on QCarverton Road so that motorists coming from those areas have been com- pelled to wait for long periods be- fore they could enter Memorial Highway.
