LILA AND PIANIST IN LOVE DUET

SHAVERTOWN FIREMEN COLLECT
$1216.75 IN MEMBERSHIP DRIVE
Shavertown [Fire Company re-€—
ported a total of $1216.75 from its
annual membership drive. The re-
port was made at its monthly meet-
ing Monday at Shavertown Fire
House.
About half the money was spent
on new equipment, boots, helmets,
firecoats, Mine Safety Appliance gas
mask, and a portable pump. Demon-
stration of the pump, which will
pump water a distance of 2500 feet
anid deliver 250 gallons of water per
minute, was given before the meet-
ing. The mask will enable a fireman
to enter a smokefilled building and
locate the origin of the fire so that
there will be a minimum of water
damage.
The following men attended ‘the
Northeastern Pennsylvania Volun-
teer (Firemen's [Federation [Fire
School at Harvey's Lake and suc-
cessfully completed the course of
instrution in fire fighting: (Chief Ho-
ward Woolbert, [Assistant Chief, Rus-
sell Edmondson, Edward Carey, John
Chapple, Elwood Dungey and Allen
Austin. ;

Local Women Named
To Outing Committee
At a meeting held recently, at
the (Catholic Youth Center, Wilkes-
Barre, many local persons were ap-
pointed to the committees for a
summer outing which the Volun-
teers of Catholic Charities are plan-
ning for children whom they spon-
sor at Our Lady of Fatima Institute,
Elmhurst; St. Michael’s Hoban
Heights; and Lourdesmont, ‘Clarks
Summit.
The outing will be held at Bar-
berry Heights near Dalton on June
29. To make the occasion family
style, the affair will take the form
of a picnic, and each sponsor will
bring a basket lunch for the child
whom she sponsors, and any mem-
bers of her family whom she may
bring as guests.
The program ‘outlined, includes
lunch, games and races for each age
group, group singing, presentation
of prizes, and supper.
Mrs. Richard Drake is homorary
chairman; Mrs. John Williams, gen-
eral chairman; Mrs. Donald Haw-
kins, Mrs. William Monahan, Mrs.
Albert Pesavento, and Miss Dorothy

Helsby Promoted
By American Stores
Philip G. Helsby, has recently
been promoted to Assistant Zone
Manager and Sales Manager by the
American Stores Company for it’s
Zone 5, which comprises North-
eastern Pennsylvania,
A graduate of Milton High School,

at Bucknell University.
He entered the employ of the
American Stores Company immedi-
ately after leaving College. He has

Grove Theatre, Nuangola, has fol-
lowed for the past 18 years, Royal
C. Stout, director and general man-
ager, will present the resideni com-
pany in Edward Mabley’s delight-
fully spicy three-act comedy Glad
Tidings for the initial production
of the regular summer stock season,
‘opening on June 16 and continuing
for the week.
A change from last season has
