It all started early in the week when we asked our wife to put up a lunch Saturday as we were taking the scouts on a hike. “Oh! AL” she says, “Surely you are not going to leave me on your day off, in the middle of my house- cleaning just to go on a hike.” “Cut it,” we answered, ‘We that we would, so that’s that.” “With all this work around here,” she pleaded, ‘Screens to put in, outside windows to wash, acre, more or less; and being the same land conveyed by Asa Caster- line et ux to the School District of the Township of Franklin, by deed dated June 14, 1906 and re- corded in Luzerne County Deed Book 437 page 446. When we hung up the phone, our wife asked: “Who was that?” “Frank Jackson.” “What did he want?” “He wanted us to go to the Forty-Fort Flower Show, but we said no.” “Well, for goodness sake, why don’t you go? It will do you good, and Mr. Jackson would like your company.” We just looked at her, and re- fused to call Frank back to say our wife would let us go for fear that he would think we were henpecked. Then Saturday eight boys showed up at nine o'clock and we had a delightful ride to Rickett’s Glen and a walk through the eight miles of one of the most beautiful spots in the State of Pennsylvania. What a day for a hike, not too hot, or too cold, and the sun shin- ing through the trees just enough, but we'll write about the Glen some other time, It is sufficient to say now that we were alone with God and eight antelopes that scrambled up and down deep gorges—the regular path wasn't for them—to cause us often to wonder what we could say to their parents when we brought home the crippled bodies. But nothing alarm- ing happened and we got home around four. Just as we entered the house the phone rang and when we answered, a lady asked if this was the home of Mrs. Alan G. Kistler who had lost her wallet? We answered that this was her home, but we knew nothing about a lost wallet as our wife and daugh- ter were shopping in Wilkes-Barre. “Well,” said the lady, “I found the wallet and it has $22.00 in it and your wife's personal cards.” “We asked the lady would she call back as we did not think our wife would like us to know she lost her pocketbook until after she recovered it. The lady did, and our wife got her wallet back. Then we were told all about it. Next we were interrupted in our screen painting by a girl that phoned that she wanted to give our Coon white cat a good home, “What's that?” we asked, “we haven't any cat.” “Well,” said the girl, “you have an advertisement in the Dallas Post this week, giving your tele- phone number that you want to find a home for a cat as the party that owns the cat is going to Eur- ope.” Just then our wife came home and saved the day by grabbing the phone and explaining that she put the advertisement in your paper for a friend of hers. Then we were called away from our garden work by someone who telephoned that he heard we were interested in buying a garage. No, we said wearily, we have two garages Now. When we took our usual passen- ger, Mrs. Poe Allen in to work Monday morning she, informed us that she saw through an adver- tisement in the Dallas Post that she would soon have to look for another driver as we were con- templating taking a trip to Europe. “What's that?” we gasped. By that time we were too tired to deny anything. “Well, she explained, “you had an advertisement in the Dallas Post this week that you wanted to find a good home for a—" Don't sell your antiques before calling LEIDINGER'S.
