~ One of the finest regions for hunting black bears in North Amer- ica is located at Hillsgrove, Sulli- van County, fourteen miles below Dallas Hunting Lodge owned by twenty odd local sportsmen. ~ That was the opinion expressed a _ few nights ago on a national radio hookup by several of the country’s leading sportsmen, Needless to say, the program gave John Yaple and ~ Harold Flack, the club’s founders, a big thrill. They’d known all along that the club house was located in some of the best big game country in Penn- sylvania but to say North America, is covering a lot of territory. ‘Dallas Hunting Lodge had its origin back in 1946 when Mrs. ~ Harold Flack ran across a classi- fied ad and called it to the atten- tion of her husband. The Flacks, in company with John Yaple and Joe Hughes went up to Sullivan County to investigate the property and report their findings to some of their sportsman friends. i Shortly thereafter, the group pur- chased the 50 acres of land and an old farmhouse located in Forks Township, at the headwaters of the Little Loyalsock. It is about 6% miles below Dushore on Route 87 near World’s End State Park. As soon as the purchase was Dallas Hunting Lodge Located In Excellent Big Game Country completed the group began to make the hundred-year old house. Today it has a 20-foot square living room with a 9-foot fireplace; a kitchen 18 feet square; a 9x12 card room; a 9x12 recreation room, and a 6x9 bath room with running water. On the second floor there are five large bedrooms with ac- commodations for forty persons. Each year since the first, the club has followed a tree planting program and now has more than 12,000 larch, spruce, red pine and hemlock under cultivation. Many of the trees planted during the first year are now 3-feet high, Last year trees were planted on a hillside along a 100° foot stretch in the form of numerals 1947. Members are Harold Flack, pres- ident; Marvin Briggs, vice presi- dent; Ross Lewin Treasurer; Joseph Hughes, John Yaple, Herbert Smith, Walter Elston, P. D. Clark, F. M.
