"PAGE EIGHT —— SAFETY VALVE | An Appeal From The Legion . To the Back Mountain Residents: The Daddow-Isaacs Post 672 of the American Legion has been a part of this area for many years. We have met in various halls and meeting places during these years, as have all the Service Clubs of the Back Mountain area. We have decided to erect ‘a building that will house our organ- ization and provide. a meeting |: place for other organizations who wish to take advantage of the facilities offered. The location we have chosen is on the: Main High- way to Harvey's Lake at Center Hill Road. Our basic building will be a Quonset Hut 40’x60’. Per- haps you saw the proposed, pro- jection of this building in a recent edition of the Dallas Post. We are issuing Bonds to finance this project. The Bonds are in $50.00 denominations bearing 2% interest per year payable at matur- ity, which is 20 years, or on any anniversary at the discretion of the Legion. In short, $50.00 invested brings a return of $70.00 at matur- ity. The members of our Post have supported this issue very well; how- | ever, we must have outside help, so we logically appeal to you resi- dents of this area who are, our friends and neighbors. We "hope that you will all ‘respond so. we can make our dream a reality. The pump house, Dallas, Pa. December 15, 1948 Dear Editor; Is there any pressure which can be brought to bear upon the bus company serving Dallas to change a recent ruling as to discharging passengers in Wilkes-Barre ? Town-bound passengers have the choice between alighting at the Hotel Sterling, halfway down the block, and walking two extra blocks to reach the square, or of staying on the bus for five more minutes and being put off at the Bennett Building. For a time after the re-routing of the Dallas busses to avoid traffic jams on crowded streets, the motormen allowed the incoming passengers to stay on the bus until the end of the run directly in front of Pomeroy’s. This allowed passengers to run for near- by shelter in case of stormy weath- er and eliminated a walk of con- siderable distance with no protec- tion. Discharging passengers at Pom- eroy’s would probably be hard to do in the face of on-rushing home- goers; but it could be managed, even in rush hours. The bus com- pany is in business to serve the public acceptably, and the arbitrary discharge of passengers at point far from the shopping center of town is not acceptable because it is not necessary.
