Mrs. Arley Shannon
Dies At Sandy Beach
Mrs. Arley Shannon, 54, died
Wednesday morning at her ‘home
at Sandy Beach, Harvey's Lake,
following an illness of cancer.
Mrs. Shannon was born in Back
Mountain area, the daughter of
the late Luther rand Jennie Hun-
singer. She resided in Ashley for
some time before moving to Sandy
She was a
member of Alderson Methodist
Church, the WSCS and the Har-
vey’s Lake Women’s /Service Club.
Of cheerful and happy disposi-
tion, Mrs. Shannon faced her illness
with fortitude. We at The Post
shall never forget the example of
her courage and her philosophy
when she: stopped at The Post on
the day she had undergone an ex-
amination at the hospital and been
told the verdict by her physician.

Surviving are her husband,
Bruce; a son, Norman, of Alder-
son; a daughter, Mrs. Helen Bain-
bridge, at home; also five grand-
children and these brothers and
sisters: Mrs. George Smith, Eliza-
beth, N. J.; Mrs. Cornelius Smith,
Amos Hunsinger and Mrs, Beatrice
Harris, all of Alderson; Hiram, of
Pottstown; Mrs. Nelson Traver,
Binghamton, and Amandus, of
Hunlock Creek.
The funeral will be held Satur-
day afternoon at 1:30 from the
home, with additional services at
2 in Alderson Methodist Church.
Rev. James Hilbert, pastor, and
Rev. David Morgan, of Courtdale,
will officiate. Interment will be
in Kocher Cemetery.

Buried On Wednesday
The - funerai of Mrs. Margaret
Woolbert, 75, widow of the late
Samuel Woolbert, was held Wed-
nesday afternoon at 2 from the
late home with services in charge
of Rev. Howard Harrison of Shaver-
town Methodist Church. Mrs.
Woolbert died Sunday morning at
the home of her daughter Mrs.
Fred Malkemes, after a seven-
months illness. /

Edwardsville when she was a
child. The family later moved to
Kunkle. In 1900 she was married
to Mr. Woolbert, of Beaumont, and
moved to Shavertown. Deceased
was a charter member of Shaver-
town Methodist Church and Dallas
Chapter 396, Order of Eastern Star.
She was also a member of Berean
Bible Class and WSCS.
Surviving are these children:
John, Youngstown, O.; Howard,
Shavertown funeral director; Mrs.
.Malkemes and Theodore, both of
Shavertown;: brother, William
Isaacs, Youngstown, and six grand-
children.
Pallbearers were William Wool-
bert, Fred Woolbert, Warren Wool-
bert, Addison Woolbert Jr., Ken-
neth Woolbert, and Lansford Nor-
ris, all nephews. Interment was
in Evergreen Cemetery, Shaver-

Hilberts on Thanksgiving.

Variety Show
Mary Sowden, general chairman
of the Dallas O. E. S. Variety
Show to be held December 10 in
the Kingston Township High School
has announced that the program
comprises ten specialty acts. Tickets
may be obtained from Mrs. Eleanor
Coolbaugh or Mrs. Ethel Carle.
Members should have donations
for booths to the following chair-
men before that date: Baked goods,
Florence Malkemes, candy, Agda

Will Exhibit Paintings
With Club Art Group
A number of local women will
enter paintings in the Art Exhibit
and Sale to be held by the Art
Group of Wyoming Valley Woman's
Club in the Lazarus Store hall and
cafeteria for three weeks starting
Monday, December 6. Among them
are Mrs. Fred Howell, Mrs, Charles
Ashley, Mrs. J. B. Carr, Mrs. Floyd
Sanders, Mrs. T. M. B. Hicks Jr.,
Mrs. Frank Werner, and Mrs. Burt

To Hold Annual Bazaar
December 10 Senior Girl Scouts
will hold their annual bazaar and
bake sale in Oliver's Garage from
4 until 9 p. m. Proceeds will be
used for troop needs and to pay
for summer camping.
Many lovely articles suitable for
Christmas gifts will be on sale.
Mothers of Scouts will furnish the

Taken By Death
Largely attended funeral services
were held from the family home,
Monday afternoon for Mrs, IsaBella
Merical, resident of Lake street,
Dallas, for the ‘past ‘twenty-six
years. Rev. Frederick Reinfurt,
pastor of Dallas Methodist Church,
officiated, assisted by Rev. Jule
Ayers of First Presbyterian Church,
Wilkes-Barre.
Pallbearers were Harold Titman,
B. B. Lewis, Z. E. Garinger, Ray
Shiber, Charles Mayer and DaVite.

Burial was in Wardan Cemetery
beside her husband, John Merical,
who preceded her in death by six-
teen months
Mrs. Merical who died Friday
noon after an illness of two days,
was born in Wilkes-Barre, January
13, 1860, daughter of the late Alex-
ander and Amanda Coleman Clark.
She was a devout Christian, a de-
voted wife and mother, and a gen-
erous and kindly neighbor,
Though she was active and alert,
at eighty-eight, her failing eye-
sight, caused her to obtain most
of her entertainment from the
radio. !
She had been a member of Dallas
Methodist Church since making her
home here and of Westminster
Presbyterian Church prior to that.
She and Mr. Merical celebrated
their seventieth wedding anniver-
sary on May 6, 1947.
Surviving her are a brother,
William Clark of Wilkes-Barre; two
daughters, Mrs. Arthur Dungey
with whom she made her home and
Mrs. Russell Strunk of Kingston;
also three grandchildren, John
Dungey and Allan and Malcolm
Strunk and great grand children,
Carol and Robert Dungey.
