Mrs. Arley Shannon Dies At Sandy Beach Mrs. Arley Shannon, 54, died Wednesday morning at her ‘home at Sandy Beach, Harvey's Lake, following an illness of cancer. Mrs. Shannon was born in Back Mountain area, the daughter of the late Luther rand Jennie Hun- singer. She resided in Ashley for some time before moving to Sandy She was a member of Alderson Methodist Church, the WSCS and the Har- vey’s Lake Women’s /Service Club. Of cheerful and happy disposi- tion, Mrs. Shannon faced her illness with fortitude. We at The Post shall never forget the example of her courage and her philosophy when she: stopped at The Post on the day she had undergone an ex- amination at the hospital and been told the verdict by her physician. — Editor. Rev. Frederick Reinfurt, pastor of Dallas Methodist Church, officiated, assisted by Rev. Jule Ayers of First Presbyterian Church, Wilkes-Barre. Pallbearers were Harold Titman, B. B. Lewis, Z. E. Garinger, Ray Shiber, Charles Mayer and DaVite. Evans. Burial was in Wardan Cemetery beside her husband, John Merical, who preceded her in death by six- teen months Mrs. Merical who died Friday noon after an illness of two days, was born in Wilkes-Barre, January 13, 1860, daughter of the late Alex- ander and Amanda Coleman Clark. She was a devout Christian, a de- voted wife and mother, and a gen- erous and kindly neighbor, Though she was active and alert, at eighty-eight, her failing eye- sight, caused her to obtain most of her entertainment from the radio. ! She had been a member of Dallas Methodist Church since making her home here and of Westminster Presbyterian Church prior to that. She and Mr. Merical celebrated their seventieth wedding anniver- sary on May 6, 1947. Surviving her are a brother, William Clark of Wilkes-Barre; two daughters, Mrs. Arthur Dungey with whom she made her home and Mrs. Russell Strunk of Kingston; also three grandchildren, John Dungey and Allan and Malcolm Strunk and great grand children, Carol and Robert Dungey.
