The matter is now before the Supreme Court. The amount of taxes withheld for 19:7 is $204,269.00, and the estimated amount for 1928 is $880,320.00, and, whether or mot, it will be possible to collect this tax depends upon the decision of the Supreme Court. J At the close of business, December’ 81, 1928, the County of Luzerne was indebted to local banks for temporary loans in the amount of $1,025,000.00, and to the Market Street Bridge ¥und in the amount of $189.301.27, a total indebtedness of $1,191,801.23, which amount is reduced by the eash balance on hand $154,084.22, leaving a deficit of $1,047,717.01. This sum must be secursd in 1929, from the coal companies (through a favorahle docision by/the Supreme Court on taxes withheld), by direct taxation, or by a bord issue.
