Jeddo wheelmen are organizing an auxiliary association to the Associated Wheelmen of Hazlcton. The Stroudsburg Time h of last week contained the following notice on the death of the father of F. 11. Albert, of Freeland: "At the ripe old age of 85 years. Henry Albert, one of the best known landmarks of the county, tiled in his residence on Sunday afternoon at 2 o'clock. The cause of death was old ago, although up to about six months ago the old gentleman was in fairly good health lie lias only been routined to his bed for the past three weeks. "There is no doubt but that Henry Al bert was the oldest male resident of Stroitdshtirg and was a familiar figure on the streets of both boroughs. "Itnogene" was reproduced at the lirand opera house on Saturday evening in a capable manner. The cast was the same as before and all acted their parts in a satisfactory manner. The dancing of Peter Qiiimi, of Philadelphia, was enthusiastically applauded. The tab leau, "The Star Spangled Banner,' 1 made si pretty opening for the evening. The closing scene, representing a won derfully realistic battle between an American and a Spanish warship, was the best of the kind ever tried here, and the designer, Patrick Dover, was warmly congratulated upon liis success in the line of spectacular work. World'M Record Broken. Thomas Kihou, proprietor of the Stroudsburg Woolen Mills, on Thursday had delivered to him a complete suit of clothing made from the wool of sheep whose fleece was sheared that morning. The world's record of eight hours, held in Scotland, was broken by one hour and llfty-four minutes. The suit was delivered to Mr. Kibon a few minutes before I o'clock, at bis residence, and in a few minutes he was attired in it,. Previous to Mr. Kibon lowering 'the world's record, of from sheep to finished clothes, it was held by a mill at Galla shiels, Scotland, and the time was eight hours. Killed Willie ul Prayer. Miss Sarah Phillips, of Audcnried. aged 24 years, was instantly killed on Thursday morning by a lightning stroke. She was on the attic engaged in her prayer when the holt came through the roof. As several Freeland people have friends and relatives in the Ninth Pennsylvania, those who wish to keep informed of its movements should re member its position in the Volunteer Army now forming. When the troops move to Cuba and active operations begin, only the larger formations of the army will probably be reported and tin- Ninth to some extent will be lost sight of. Those who desire to know where it may lie at any time can help to locate it by remembering that the Ninth Pennsyl vania. Second Missouri and First New Hampshire form the Third Brigade of the Third Division of the First Ann) orps. The regiment is commanded by Col. C. U. Dougherty, the division by Brigadier General J. S. The Democratic district convention, held in Ila/.leton on Saturday to elect delegates to the state convention, broke up in a row, and two sets of delegates were elected to represent the district. Before the break-up blows were given each other, and at one time it seemed as if a general light would take, place be tween the spectators and the delegates. Chairman Bigelow, who represented the Garmanities, withdrew his delegates to another room in the building and there by averted what threatened to be a big riot. Tht! convention of Catholic temper ance societies held last week at Kings ton ended on Friday. During the pro ceedings a number of matters of interest to the members of the union were, consid ered. One of tint features of the con vention was the. adoption of tin order enjoining secrecy upon members in re lation to society business. The protest of St. Mary's Society, of Kckley, against members of their parish joining the Young Men's Corps, of Freoland, was referred to the spiritual director. The question of admitting IJ reek Catholics to membership was decided in their favor, they being in uliiliation with the see of Dome. Wilkobarre was chosen as the place to hold the annual parade on October 10. The resolutions adopted renew the the fealty of the union to the cause of total abstinence, recommend that special attention be paid to the organization of ladies' societies and cadet societies, appreciate the noble impulses which prompted our government to intercede in Cuba and favor a vigorous prosecution of the war until every vestige of Spanish rule is driven from this hemisphere. The desire of 10uglaml to form an alliance with the I' 11 ited States is looked upon with distrust and the union goes on record against such until self-govern ment is granted to Ireland; regret upon the death of (•ladstoito is expressed. From the Lansford Record. On Wednesday warrants were served upon the present members of the Sum mit Hill council, charging them with misdemeanor in oflice, by furnishing labor ami supplies and voting money illegally. Andrew Rreslin is charged with furnishing lumber and supplies: John Fink with doing smithing; Kdward Fisher with accepting pay as health messenger; William T. Jones, Thomas Young, Thomas Robert and Henry Mc- Dish with being employed as laborers on the borough roads. The charge against the other members is for voting to pay these men for labor and supplies fur nished. All appeared and entered bail for a hearing before Squire Lewis on May gs.
