■V IS Bate man'a Drops, Godfrey's Cordial, many so-called Soothing Syrups, and

Bo Yon Know that opium and morphine are stupefying narcotic poisons 7
Bo Yon Know that in most countries druggists are not permitted to sell narcotics
without labeling them poisons 7

unless you or your physician know of what it is composed 7
Do Yon Know that Castoria is a purely vegetable preparation, and that a list of
its ingredients is published with eveiy bottle 7

other countries, have issued exclusive right to Dr. Pitcher aud his assigns to use the word
** Castoria " and its formula, and that to Imitate them is a state prison offense 7
Do Yon Know that one of the reasons for granting this government protection was
because Castoria hod been proven to be absolutely harmless?
Do You Know that 35 average doses of Custoria are furnished for 35

IVr so the system of assessment in
Carbon county encouragement is given
to the increase of loafers, idlers and
tramps. An industrious boy learns a
trade and when he reaches manhood he
is taxed for his industry while the idler |
and loafer escapes. There is something
radically in error with a system of taxa
tion that, compels a man to pay taxes for
being industrious. Did you ever stop to
think of it?— Lehighton Advocate.
Three bull-headed street railway presi
dents of Brooklyn, N. Y.. will not allow
the differences between themselves and
their employes to he settled by the state
board of arbitration or by any other
method, neither will tlioy settle the dis
pute themselves in any way but "accept
our-terms" plan. As a consequence, a
few thousand conductors and motormcn
are idle, the street car service of the
city is demoralized, new men are wreck
ing the rolling stock of the com
panies through inexperience, and al
most 8.000 members of the state militia
are patrolling the city and piling up ex
pense which the taxpayers must shoulder.
Encouraged by the local papers, the
new labor union, United Mine workers of
America, lias agitated the company store
question to such an extent in the
Schuylkill region that a bill to prohibit '
them has been introduced in the lcgislu- i
turo by Representative Wyatt, of Shon- j
nandonh, and if reports are. true it j
stands some cbance of becoming a law. I ,
This act is drawn in away intended to I
cover the loop-holes in previous bills j i
which had the same object in view, and '
on this account it will likely have a ;
rough road to travel at Jlarrisburg. If
it were not so stringent in its provisions ' :
the professional politicians would be 1
lighting one another to win the credit '
of securing its passage.
Pattison's alleged inability to take the
office of mayor of Philadelphia, if elect
ed, I*, a question that is agitating the
lawyers of the Quaker City, it is a sig
nificant feature ef the discussion that
tin* attorneys of the railroads, traction
companies and corporations are a unit
in their opinion that he ineligible, and
the journalistic organs, under the lead
•rship of the Press, are grinding out
daily moans about the folly of voting for
a man who could not qualify. If the
corporation lawyers and organs were
sincere in their belief that Pattison is
ineligible, they would say nothing until
after his election. As it Is. they dis
credit their own statements by their
frantic appeals to the people to not
eject him.
