Medical Group Gives Support To Welfare Plan Liaison Committee to Meet District Physician The Cambria Co. Medical Soci- ety is the most recent group in this area to place its stamp of approval on the medical, health and hospital program of the UMWA. In addition, the county medicos have taken a concrete step to aid the success of the plan. They have appointed a liaison com- mittee which will work hand in hand with health and welfare fund officials in District 2. Dr. C. R. Davis of Johnstown is chairman of the group. His aides include Dr. Francis T. Carney, Johnstown, president of the coun- ty society; Dr. A. W. Fees, Span- gler; Dr. H. A. Slesinger, Wind- ber, and Dr. Joseph C. Anderson, Ebensburg. According to Dr. Davis, the so- ciety has accepted the UMWA program as proposed to date. “The liaison committee already is reported to function and will con- fer with Dr. S. B. Brinkley, head of the District 2 medical office, Porch Bldg., Johnstown, any time any problems arise.” These conferences, to be atten- groups, are designed to eliminate the necessity of ironing out many routine matters before the full membership of the medical pro- fession. Gov. James Duff approved ap- propriations totaling $746,819,619 or $29,911,000 more than he had recommended for general govern- ment purposes in his budget rec- comendation in February. In addition, the penny boost in state gasoline tax which went into effect June 1 is expected to substantially increase the amount in the state motor fund. The increase in the general fund appropriations — those ear- marked for general government purposes—was from §695,218,980 to §$795,129,273 appropriated to cover deficiencies in allocations made by the 1947 Legislature.
