ORDINANCE PER CAPITA TAX ORDINANCE NO. 64 An Ordinance Providing for the Assessment, Levy and Collection by the Council of the Borough of Carrolltown of a Per Capita Tax for General Revenue Purposes. BE IT ENACTED AND OR- DAINED by the Burgess in the town Council of the Borough of Carrolltown, Pennsylvania, and IT IS HEREBY ENACTED AND ORDAINED by authority of the same, that in pursuance of auth- ority granted by an Act of Gen- eral Assembly, approved the 25th day of June, 1947, P. L. 1145, No. 481, as follows:— Section 1. A PER CAPITA TAX of Five Dollars per person, upon each and every person twenty-one years of age, or over, residing in the Borough of Car- rolltown, Pennsylvania, during the fiscal year, from the first day of January, 1949, to the first day of January, 1950, or any part there- of. Section 2. The First National Bank of Carrolltown, Pennsyl- vania, is appointed collector for | the collection of the taxes due in | the Borough of Carrolltown as hereinbefore enumerated. Section 3. The said tax shall be due and payable in the same manner as taxes levied and asses- ged on real estate for Borough purposes in said Borough, and failure to pay the same at any time designated, shall incurthe same penalty as provided for the failure to pay taxes as heretofore provided by law. Section 4. The said tax is due and payable on the first day of July, 1949, and failure to pay the same on or before the first day of October, 1949, shall be subject to a five per centum (5%) penalty. Section 5. All rights and pow- ers conferred by Acts of Assem- bly of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania for the collection of taxes shall be enforced in the collection of the hereinabove men- tioned tax. National Hospital Day To Be Observed in Area National Hospital Day will be observed Thursday of next week, May 12, from 2 to 4 in the afternoon at the Miners’ Hospital, Spangler, with mem- bers of the Ladies Auxiliary serving as hostesses, An invitation is extended to the public to visit the hospital at this time and to see two films on cancer, “Time Is Life” and “Traitor Within,” to be shown in the auditorium of the Nurses Home at 2:30 p. m. John E. Thompson Dies At Ebensburg John Evan Thompson, burgess and justice of the peace in Eb- ensburg for 16 years, died last Friday morning at his home in Ebensburg. He was appointed burgess and justice of the peace by Gov. Clif- ford Pinchot in 1932 and held the positions until his resignation last year. Mr. Thompson was a member of one of Ebensburg’s oldest fam- ilies. His grandfather settled in Ebensburg in the early 1800's and his father, James Thompson, was a veteran of the Pennsylvania Volunteer Infantry in the Civil War. Mr. Thompson was a merchant in Ebensburg for many years, succeeding his father in the mer- cantile business in 1918. His wife, the former Mary E. McSorley of Summit, died in 1947. Funeral services were held on Sunday at the Askew Funeral Home in Ebensburg by Rev. E. W. Roberts, paster of the Eb- ensburg First Presbyterian Chu- rch.
