This year, the team will be directed by Ted Keenan, who was co-coach with Hugo Vivadelli last year. Mr. Vivadelli is the principal of the Spangler High School and will not coach this year. Paul Artley, a graduate of Dickinson College, is the new as- sistant coach. Coach Keenan has only one regular returning from last year's team—Tony Taranto, a guard. Returning lettermen include Paul Kline, Frank Kowardy, tackles; Louis Fowler and Joe Mucurio, backs. A squad of 50 hopefuls were on hand for the first work- out last Monday. Spangler faces a tough 10- game schedule. Opening with the Carrolltown eleven on Friday of next week, Sept. 5, at the Car- rollftown Stadium, and closing with Barnesboro on Armistice Day. Spangler will play seven home games in their new stadium, ded- icating the stadium with a home opener on Saturday night, Sept. 13, with Richland Twp. High. The Bears, 2-to-1 favorite to win, never got beyond the All- Stars’ 30-yard stripe. The All- Stars, coached by Notre Dame's Frank Lealey, made 11 first-in- 10's to 8 for the Bears. Notre Dame's Geo. Ratterman’s terrific passing and Negro halfback Bud Young of Illinois shared the spot- light for the All-Stars. Dysart Completes Plans For Jamestown Game All plans have been com- pleted for the baseball game between the Dysart All Stars and the Jamestown (N. Y.) nine, winners of the New York State Tournament, according to word received from George Mansfield, the Dysart mana- r. EC he game will be played on Sunday afternoon at 2:30 p. m. (DST) sharp. Coach Huck Cicero’s Squad : To Play Opene r Next Week 54 Boys Turn Out To Vie for Positions A total of 54 boys from Car- rolltown High School turned out for football practice during the past week in an effort to aid the Mountaineers better their 5-win, 4-loss record of last year. Carrolltown’s 1947 schedule is the same as that of 1946, with the exception of Barnesboro being substituted in the place of Indi- ana. Nine games are on the card, with the opener being a game with Spangler at the Car- rolitown Stadium Friday of next week. Coach Mario (Huck) Cicero is in charge of training the squad.
