The Postoffice Department is re-|
ceiving much short paid Air-mail ad- |
dressed to the Armed Forces in For- |
eign countries. The rate for Air-mail
to Armed Forces outside the United |
States is 6 cents for each half ounce, |
whether V-mail or regular Air-mail.
Gerald Skurky of Detroit, Mich.,
spent the past week with his parents,
Mr. and Mrs. J. S. Skurky, of Pal-
mer avenue.
Ronald J. Skurky has gone to De-
troit, Mich., with his brother, Jerry,
where he has secured employment.
Wilbur E. Morgan, son of Mr. and
Mrs. A. G. Morgan of Hastings, has
been given the rating of Staff Ser-
geant in the Army Air Corps. He is
stationed at Sioux Falls, S. D.
Large numbers of Christmas greet _
ing cards, mailed in unsealed envel-
opes at the third class postage rate,
are disposed of as waste each year
because they are undeliverable as ad-
dressed, due to removal of addresses
or other cause. Such greetings are
not entitled to the free forwarding
privilege accorded those mailed in a
sealed envelope at the first class rate,
and many never know greetings were
sent them. This would not occur if
the greetings were mailed sealed at
the first class rate.
Instead of getting four gallons of
gasoline for each coupon in your ra-
tioning books, after December 1st, as
was anticipated, all of Pennsylvania
will be given only 3 gallons for each
coupon This becomes effective in the
present rationed areas on Nov. 22,
and in Cambria county and other now
non-rationed Pennsylvania counties
on December 1st.
George Tirpak, son of Joseph T.
Tirpak, of Lang avenue, was recently
promoted from the rank of Private
First Class to Corporal. Corp. Tirpak
is a member of the 1044th Basic Fly-
ing Training Squadron at the new Ar-
my Flying School at Enid, Okla.
Branch N. 90 Knights of St. George
will sponsor their annual Raffle and
Bingo Party for the benefit of St.
Mary's Church and School on Friday,
November 20th, with the raffle he-
ginning at 7 p. m., and cards and rin-
go at 8:30 p. m. The affair will be
held in the Patton Fire Hall.
Word has been received from Camp
Lee that John Donahue, son of Mrs.
Annie Donahue, Patton, has been pro-
moted to private first class. He is as-
signed to the guard unit at the Vir- |
ginia camp headquarters. Donahue 1s
a member of the Fraternal Order of
Eagles and the Moose.
Invitations have been mailed for
the Thanksgiving Day wedding of
Miss Phyllis Gertrude Yeckley, dau-
ghter of Mr. and Mrs. Philip J. Yeck-
ley, of Patton, and Joseph J. Keeney,
son of Mr. and Mrs. Joseph J. Keen-
ey, of 232 East Third street, Media,
Pa. The ceremony will be solemninzed
al 10 a. ma. in the Church of the Na-
tivity. The bride will be attended by
her sister, Miss Lorraine’ Yeckley, as
maid of honor, and Miss Beatrice |
Cunningham and Miss Alice Keeney.
She will be given in marriage by her
father, who is going with Mrs. Yeck-
ley to attend the wedding. !
Miss Beatrice Cunningham of Me-
dia, Pa., spent the week end with her
mother, Mrs. Frank Cunningham, of
Fatton, R. D. The following were al-

Pvt. Bob Daugherty of Aberdeen
Proving Ground, Md., spent a week

Pvt. Chick Forsythe, of Camp
Blanding, Florida, is spending a ten
day furlough with his wife,
Gabriel Sickler, who has spent the
past year in Texas, returned to Pat-
ton Tuesday.
Ordell Yeckley of Cleveland, Ohio,
visited his parents here over the week
end.
Corp. George Blankenhorn, Camp
Blanding, Fla., is spending a furlough
with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Fred
Blankenhorn.
Mr. and Mrs. John Garrity announ-
ce the marriage of their daughter,
Miss Mary Jane Garrity, to Frank
Shaffer of Bakerton. Their marriage
took place in Maryland on November
9th.
Pfc. John Morgan, who recently
completed maneuvers in Tennessee,
spent a ten day furlough with his
parents, Mr. and Mrs. John Morgan,
here. He left Monday for a new sta-
tion in California.
