year the butterine, or, as it is technically
known, oleomargarine, sold in the
United States bearing the marks of Chi-
cago manufactures amounted to 38,000,
000 pounds, valaed in round numbers
at $6,000,000. The manufactures are
the packers, although there are two
concerns devoted exclusivly to the busi-
ness whose plants are more modern
and complete than those of the big
stock yard men. The capital employed
in the various plants aggregates, it is
suid $500,000. Probably 2,000 persons
are employed in the industry.”
