A mad dog created considerable ex citement Jn Sykesvllle last Sunday afternoon. The dog ran tho stroots biting other dogs and Buapplng at people, a number of whom had narrow escapes. Tbe dog ran into one bouse succeeded In biting ono man's hand vory badly before the dog was kicked out of the house. Five or six shots woro fired at tho dog, but they all missed tho dog and It continued on its mad run. In about an hour the dog returned to town and was finally shot by Ray Null. The man who was bitten was a forolgner from DuBols. Ho was taken to the doctor's offlco, but he refused to lot the doctor dress his liund. Ono finger was badly torn. No Agreement Yet. James Waito, one of the twin soiib of Mr. and Mrs. Rob't Waito, who is a missionary in China, is on his way homo. Ho started for home almost four weeks ago. It will be three weeks more before ho gets hero. It takes sevon weeks to muko the trip. Situation at Camp Run. Twenty-one miners wore working in the Camp Run mine, four miles west of this place on P. R. R., and they con tinued at work until last Wednesday, when work was susponded. Monday of this week nine of the miners returned to work. A meeting was hold last night to persuade tho men to quit work until the wage scale Is settled, but before going to press this morning wo had not heard whether tbe men quit work or not. Last Sunday in Hall. Next Sunday will be the last Sunday the M. E. congregation will hold ser vice in the Centennial hull, as the new church will be completod and roady for dedication on the following Sunday. The congregation will be glad to get into a church again, although Centen nial hall la a fairly good place for hold ing church services. In fact the con gregation was fortunate in being able to get such a comfortable and conven ient place to bold services for one year, while tbe new church was being erected. Baccalaureate Sermon. The baccalaureate sermon for West Reynoldsville high school graduating class will be preached In tbe Baptist church at 8.00 p. m. next Sunday by Dr. J. G -orgo Becht, principal of Clarion State Normal school. Dr. Becht may well be regarded as one of the ablest and most practical school men in the state. He always pleases and inspires. Died in Pittsburg Hospital. ' Scott Horm, who was born in Wash ington township, Jefferson county, 20 years ago the first of this month, died In the West Penn hospital in Pittsburg Saturday morning, April 14, 1900. Typhoid fever and erysipelas complica tions was cause of his death. Scott was a brakeman on the P. R. R. Alex H. Fleming, of Hughes & Fleming under taking establishment, went to Pittsburg Saturday and brought the body to home of the deceased's, mother on Mabel street Sunday. Whon Daniel Harrington returned homo from church about nlno o'clock Sunday night ho was greatly shocked to find tbo lifeless body of his wife lying in bed, as Mrs. Harrington was In ap parently good health when her hus hund started for church. Corobral apoplexy was causo of horsuddon death, Mrs. Harrington hud boon lit church Sunday morning and spent part of the afternoon ut a neighbor's house, and wbtlo there she complained of being dizzy for a short time, but the dizziness soon ptssed off. Ono day Inst week James Boyer, a carpenter, had a narrow escape whilo at work on a house on Mabol street. He was on a scaffold and Btepped too far out on end of scaffold and the board he was on tilted and Mr. Boyer threw up his rigbt hand to save himsolf from fulling, forgetting that be bad a sharp hatchot in bis hand. As his hand wont up tbe hatchot struck Mr. Boyer on neck and cut a d'.ep gash. A quarter of an inch deeper and Mr. Boyer's eartbly career would have ended. Easter Sunday. Special and appropriate Easter ser vices were held in all the churches of town on Sunday, and the attendance was large at all of them. The decora tions in tbe Catholic church was very elaborate and beautiful, surpassing tbe decoratlc ns in any of the other churches. The Carrol Comedy Company. Moore plead guilty to incest uous fornication and was sentenced to undergo an imprisonment In the West ern penitentiary for a period of two years and six months. Mary Lighttoot, colored, plead guilty lo soiling liquor without license and ran sentenced to pay $500 fine, pay oosts and undergo imprisonment in tho Allegheny Workhouse three months. Harry Wachob, Mary and May But terbaugh, found guilty f violating liv ery stable act. Sentenced to pay a fine of $15 each and serve 20 days In county jail. Dominic Ponunno and Georgianna Mazzetta, Italians, charged with as sault with intent to kill, wore found guilty but have not been sentenced yet. This case occurred at Sykosville Jan. 27.
