Sheriff Grant Schcafnoeker, who was a resident of Reynoldsville almost fifteen years, moved to Brookville the latter part of last week and now occupies the sheriff's residence in Brookville. Sheriff Scheafnocker took the oath of office Monday and is now high sheriff of Jefferson county. ' Sykesvile. The Union watch mooting service conducted by Revs. J. W. Crawford and J. C. Mo Minn preached a sormon In the Baptist church and at 9 :30 the meeting was transfcred to the M. E. church, whore the song services were conducted by W. B. Stoughten. F. . C. Bonnet read a very interesting paper on "The poetry of tho Bible." P. S. Reed read a paper on "How can I understaid the Bible", and G. E. Null read an excollent paper on "What will be ray greatest dlfllculty in christian life." J. S. Long, who was to have read a paper on "Why do Church memborsdo wrong", was absent on account of sickness. At 10:45 the meeting whs opened for general talks in which quite a number participated, after which Rov. Crawford preached an excellent sormon on "Benefits of God during the past year." The meeting was Interspersed with music by the choir at 11:45 the entire congregation joined in sinking. After which the benedict ion was pronounced by Rev. Crawford. At 10 o'clock on Wednesday morning Mrs. Jacob Hilllurd r eelved a stroke of paralysis, which rendered her uncon cious, and from which she has but partially recovered. Or. At a mooting of representatives from the Beveral high schools of the county, bold at Brookvillo Duoembur 19th, a baskot ball league was organized and the follow Id g rules wore adopted : 1st, The organisation shall bo called the Jefferson County Basket Ball League. 2nd, The ofllcers shall be chairman, secretary and treasuror, to be elected at a regular mooting to bo held' on the first Saturday in November of each year. 3d, Tho principal of each school shall be responsible for his team and guarantee. 4lb, No person shall bo eli gible for a It ague team who Is not a regular student or principal of the school which thotonm represents. 6th, Each team shall bo entitled to one offi cial, who shall not bo a member of the school which he represents, except by special agreement of all tho munagers of league teams, (ith. Spalding rules shall be used exclusively, excopt where they conflict with thoso rules. All de cisions In technical points on all adopted rulos shall bo decided by ma jority voto of regular solocted referees. 7th, A uniform schedule of gamos shall be formulated by managers of league teams. This fee to bo used for purposo of pur chasing banner and defraying other general expenses. 11th, Guarantees Bhall bo as agreed upon botwoen con testing teams. 12th, These rules may be amended by two-thirds voto at a moetlng of delegates composed of ono dologate from each league team. Representatives from tho following High schools wore present : Roynolds vlllo, Brookville, Falls Crock, Sigol, Brockwayvllln, Snydor and Beech woods. W. M. Jones, of Ucechwoods, was chosen chairman. Three of the above schools, Reynoldsville, Brook ville and Boechwocds, havo signed the league, the other schools being delayed until they secure a suitable building for play. The Christmas entertainment in Big Soldier ball was well attended and quite a success in every way. After tbe entertainment the little folks were given a treat, also several presents were exchanged between teachers and scholars. .. ''More Eloquent Than Ever." Dr. Willits is an old man in years but in nothing else. Not a faculty is im paired and we cannot imagine a better lecture from him forty ysars ago. It was a delight and a treat, to listen to him. One could feel that bis daily life, bit borne life was always just as sunny as bis lecture and his nature as good. If we could have Dr. Willits with us again In next season's course of lectures we would all bo pleased and we probably voice the sentiment of many when we hope be may bo spared many more years to brighten the lives and hearts of thousands with the light of bis sun shine.
