PLYMOUTH ROCK MINING CO. Reynoldsville Business Men Interested in Operating Zinc Mine in Missouri. About two years Ago soma of our busi ness mon wore Induced to tuko stock In a company that was being organized to operate for zinc In Missouri and they bought a targe Interest near Carthago, Mo. After a few months had slipped by there were doubts In the minds of some of those Interested as to whether the investment was worth anything or not. J. Van Reed, of this place, went to Missouri and took charge of the territory and began testing It. After overcoming many discouragements and delays, a good vein of Kino ore was struck, for which the gentlemen Inter ested can give Mr. Heed a great deal of credit. Had It not been for his per severance and good management the zinc mine, so far as the Reynoldsville Investors are concerned, would have been a fizzle. A large mill, costing 1(1,000, for crushing and washing the ore was erected and Is now In operation. The first week in May J. J. Sutter, one of our merchants, who is a stock holder In the zlno mlno, went out to Missouri to see the mine and to form some Idea for himself of the plant and its value. In conversation with Mr. Sutter one day last week we learned the following facts concerning the company and the zlno mine they are now operating. The name of company Is the Plymouth Rock Mining Company, composed of J. Van Reed, A. T, McCluro, P. D, Smith, Dr. J. C. King, Dr. W. B. Alex. ander, W. W. Wiley, G. O. Sweltzor, G. J. Corwln, J. J. Sutter, of Reynolds ville, Dr. R. M. Boyle and J. C. Boyle, of Falls Creek, and a Mr. Cook, of Carthage. he company owns five acres of land. The mine la 19fl feet deep and the ore Is brought to the surface in an Iron tub that holds 500 pounds. This tub can be brought out of mine, dumped and sent back again in ono minute. Three steam drills are used in mlno, but for the comfort of the miners these machines are operated with compressed air. The mon drill all day and the blasting Ib done after men quit work In the evening. The mine is not opened enough yet to run full capacity, but the output Is about one hundred tons a day in the rough. It requires as much water to wash the ore as it would to run a grist mill. The company sells the zinc at plant for 132.50 per ton. On the 24th of May they shipped 100,470 pounds, Mr. Sutter had a box of ore shipped home, which arrived here last week, that Is 40 per cent zinc. Ho says all the ore from their mlno does not con' tain quite as much per cent of zlno as the ore he brought home with him, but this ore is a fair average Spoctmen of the ore can be seen atSeoley, Alexander & Co. bank, First National bank or at Mr. Sutter's dry goods store. A popular young lady of this place was pleasantly surprised the other evening at her home, It being the an niversary of her 10th birthday. We understand the young men wore unablo to attend on account of their sisters and lady friends possessing themselves of thoir trousers and other masculine ap' parel, which of course necessitated the young men retiring earlier than thoir usual hour and accounted for the scarcity of the young men on ourstreots on the evening of this occasion.
